I wouldn't get anything until as late as possible. I'm superstitious and wouldnt even have baby stuff in the house. We got it as late as we could, the month before my due date. All we had at home was what we needed for the hospital, the other few big things we got were at my mums until after the baby was born. Also we only got the bare minimum of what we needed as we didn't want to find out the sex until the birth. All we had before was crib and bedding, car seat, pram and clothes and essentials for hospital. Everything else (bouncy chair, playmat, swing, bath, changing mat and box, toys, clothes and so on) we got after when we knew if we were buying for a boy or a girl.
I'd never set anything up either.
Our baby was not well when he was born and was in NICU for 12 days. Walking out the hospital with an empty car seat was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. Then at home going into the bedroom seeing the empty space where the crib should have been was hard enough, if everything (crib, pram, toys, changing stuff, clothes were there set up it would have been even harder.
Plus I hate nurseries anyway, they're not necessary at all imo, so no need to set anything up.

Its entirely up to you OP. I don't believe in fate or bad luck if you put it up now. Enjoy the excitement of getting ready for your baby!

ShirleyCurly · 17/01/2021 20:09

You can put it up whenever you want - but baby won't be sleeping in a nursery til they're six months old if you're following safe sleep guidelines so it's going to be 10-11months til you need the nursery ready.

MimiDaisy11 · 17/01/2021 20:11

Personally, I would look in the box and see everything looks fine - no breaks or missing pieces etc. I'm a similar amount of weeks to you. I said to myself that I wouldn't buy anything until later but we got a pram and we just checked it out and put it back in the box until nearer the time.

welshweasel · 17/01/2021 20:14

Buying clothes or baby stuff will have no bearing on the outcome of your pregnancy. Do whatever you want to! Enjoy it. If, god forbid, the worst happened, having some baby stuff around is not going to make anything worse.

Chelyanne · 17/01/2021 20:17

I don't blame you for buying before they ran out again. I would get it all out and check there is no damage or missing parts, if not no need to rush building it but no harm to do it now either.
We've only lost babies in the 1st trimester, we've brought 5 home 1-3 days after birth. I built the twins cot bed by myself at 29 weeks pregnant and I was pretty huge by then but managed it okay. We didn't use the cots much for several months with our singletons as we used moses basket but the twins were in it together from the 1st night home (had it next to our bed for them).

Set things up when u want to, think I aimed to get the nursery set up at 28 weeks ish, it made me happy and excited to get things ready. My ds was born 12 weeks early and made no difference having the nursery set up or not, didn't make the whole experience any worse/better it would have been a shite time no matter what. I personally found that I didn't have to worry about buying stuff and could just worry about him as we had it all.
This time we don't need to buy/set much up as we have it all but i have purchased bits that we have needed as and when and got the clothes out last week at 26 weeks
If you don't feel ready, I would atleast get the crib out and give it a good look over and make sure all the bits are their and it not broken xx
No right or wrong here everyone will feel differently about when to set bits up, so just do what work for u

Danackoz · 17/01/2021 20:18

Yeah i was thinking to just check all the parts and then leave it in the box. Yeah i know they wont be in it for a while just wanted to set up the nursery before baby is here but more nearer the time to DD. I havent bought my pram yet but that will be going to my mums and the bedside crib is also there ive got lil bits like baby grows and bits but all in a bag or hung away.

I'm not superstitious in any way and my thoughts were nothing could make me worse if anything happened.

We had nursery done, clothes washed and put away, changing basket full etc by time I was 32 weeks as DS1 was born at 35 weeks. Pleased we were sorted as I had a long recovery so minimised what needed doing. Plus I knew where everything was so could direct DH to what I needed.

Pram and Next to Me stayed at my parents until DS2 was born, then we were kept in 5 days so DH collected these and set up, put sheets on etc.

CLeighannHxo · 17/01/2021 21:33

I am 21 weeks with my first baby and I can not wait to get the nursery sorted! We have got the pram but that is at the MIL's house, we got our baby furniture (cot, wardrobe and drawers) we got this as got it second hand for £60 and it's the proper mamas and papas one, so couldn't let that go for that price! They are in the nursery at the minute waiting to be set up! We are going to be decorating and setting it up beginning of Feb as we are so excited and want everything to be ready before I get too big to do anything. I don't believe that it would do any harm to the baby if things are set up, it's such an exciting time and should be enjoyed!

Anon9990 · 17/01/2021 22:28

Definitely check for parts to ensure none missing! I collected my pram the other day and 3 bits were missing (the wheel bolts, the car seat attachments and the bits to attach the carry cot to the chassis) so annoying!

Danackoz · 18/01/2021 12:50

It is so excitting, and i agree should be enjoyed i was just unsure what to do for the best, we are also decorating atm.
I think we will aim to get set up in feb but ill deffo check all the parts before hand. Thanks and enjoy setting up your nursery 😬😬

@Danackoz only you can decide what you want to do regarding setting up or getting things ready, I personally can not wait hehe 😀 what is your DD?

Danackoz · 18/01/2021 13:09

@CLeighannHxo yeah im with you on this very excitted. My DD is 31.05.21 how about you?

OP posts:
CLeighannHxo · 18/01/2021 13:15

@Danackoz oooo mines the 29/05/21 😃

movingonup20 · 18/01/2021 13:19

I personally set up the crib at 38 weeks borrowed from a friend and my dad collected the pram once dd had arrived (stores used to keep them as it's considered back luck etc I'm not superstitious but wasn't complaining about it being kept in storage for me!) I didn't buy a cot until dd was nearly 6 months and we hoped she would actually use it (she didn't, neither did her sister)

Lazypuppy · 18/01/2021 13:22

We set the cot up at about 25 weeks when we bought it. We had it in our room to start anyway, and then took it apart and moved it into dd's room when she started sleeping in there.

I got everything early, but i don't worry about superstitions/bad luck/tempting fate etc

Danackoz · 18/01/2021 13:52

@CLeighannHxo oooo so close dates we cud the same date 😬

OP posts:
CLeighannHxo · 18/01/2021 14:41

@Danackoz we could potentially haha 🤭 do you know the gender?

Danackoz · 18/01/2021 14:55

@CLeighannHxo no having a suprise. How bout u?

OP posts:
CLeighannHxo · 18/01/2021 15:12

@Danackoz aww that will lovely! I really didn't want to find out either but then me and my partner where discussing things and we decided to find out because of the practicality of everything 😊 have you thought of any names? That was also a big debate in our household 🤭😂

Danackoz · 18/01/2021 15:24

@CLeighannHxo yeah we did think about it but just thought will go neutral with everything and have the suprise. Boy or Girl?? We have thought of names girl name boxed off that was easy we had the name from the begining really which were keeping a suprise but boys names we are really struggling with. Have you thought of a name?

OP posts:
CLeighannHxo · 18/01/2021 15:59

@Danackoz Yerr that will be amazing for you both 😀 we are expecting a boy! 🥰 I found boys names really hard to decide on, girls names are so much easier to pick aren't they. After lots of debates... we both liked Isaac

Danackoz · 18/01/2021 16:14

@CLeighannHxo awwww congratulations a lil prince 💙 i love the name that was 1 we looked at too but still have not made a decision on boy’s name yeah i think it is so much harder. But u have deffinately picked well lovely name.
