NIPT test charges

I wonder if anyone here would know, I'm struggling to speak to a person in the clinics as all the bookings are taken on line.

I've had several MMC picked up at early reassurance scans. I can't have a scan on the NHS this time as they're not doing them due to COVID.

I would want the NIPT test anyway, so if I booked this for 10+ weeks and the scan there showed MMC would they just charge me for the scan part or would I have to pay the £400 odd for the NIPT I'd booked?

I had this happen to me and I was only charged for the scan. Call and check with your provider but in my experience they do the scan first to ensure the pregnancy is viable before taking blood.

I also had 3mmc so can understand your worry - if there’s a contact form use that to check on charges, it’s worth letting them know about your previous miscarriages as they will tell you really quickly if everything is ok x

Thank you. That's a good idea. £400 on top of being told I'd had another MMC would probably be more than I could take! 😩

Did you have a successful pregnancy after that @Littlegoth? I've also had three and starting to lose hope a bit now

Sorry to hear about about your MMCs.

I had a NIPT at the FMC on Harley St and they did the scan first. The scan there was so much more thorough the NHS one ( more like the NHS 20 week scan in terms of thoroughness).

Good luck x

After my third miscarriage I was referred to the recurrent miscarriage clinic for tests - they found I had antiphospholipid syndrome, and I now have a 4 month old, born exactly a year after my first appointment. If you haven’t been referred to your local recurrent miscarriage clinic, speak to your EPU or GP and have them refer you. Have hope and I’ve got my fingers crossed for you xx

Likewise - I booked the nipt (harmony) test and asked what would happen if the scan discovered a mc and the same - just pay for the scan.

This was after 2 mc being found at 8/9 week scans.

At the clinic on the booking form I always included my history including the mc and the sonographer for my early scan (at 8 weeks) and then before the 10'week scan for the harmony test - she found that so important heart beat so quickly for me.

It’s worth getting a referral even now - my clinic will scan every 2 weeks for the first 12 weeks of pregnancy once you are under their care. I will remain with them for future pregnancies too. X

@Littlegoth which clinic did you use?
I’m wanting to book for the NIPT test (assuming I get that far after 4 miscarriages), but knowing where to book is baffling me! There are so many choices!

My most recent pregnancy I had the NIPT done at my local hospital and it cost £275. A lot of hospitals are offering this now so worth checking. I think they could have found out sex too but I didn’t think to ask!

Previously I used www.thisismynipt.co.uk - although we only got as far as the scan they contacted the EPU for me too which was a welcome kindness.
