Hi Ladies,
Hoping someone can help me out. I’m losing weight in my second trimester. Will be 18 weeks tomorrow. I’ll admit I’m not eating well at all, I’m trying but I still have nausea and I’m so tired all the time that I find I’m reaching for something small and quick when I do eat. I weigh less now than I did before I got pregnant, despite having a bump.

I’ve started keeping a food diary to try and push myself to eat more everyday but the thought of eating 2,000 calories at the moment sounds so difficult.
Has anyone else gone through/is going through this? Just looking for some advice.

Have you spoken to your gp about the nausea /sickness it might be time to try antinausea meds?

I lost about half a stone in the first trimester and I wasn't back at my prepregnancy weight until about 18 weeks. I started losing weight again in the third trimester when my sickness returned. I had cyclizine from about 7 weeks which helped. In the end I only gained a stone in pregnancy and I now weight a stone less than prepregnancy.

Eat as much as you can when you can. I lived off tinned fruit, salt and vinegar rice cakes and soup. On good days I managed chocolate spread and bread sticks (adult version of the kids snack!)

I weigh less now than pre-pregnancy and I'm 36wks. I know a few people who were similar. I think it depends on whether you are underweight whether or not weight loss is concerning.

I did with my first. I put some weight on quite quickly in the last 4 weeks and I finished the pregnancy the same weight as I started in the end.

Whether it matters or not will depend on your weight pre-pregnancy (did you have it to lose? I did) and how you're feeling. With my second I pre empted things and got on meds which was a lifesaver. Worth thinking about if you're really struggling.

I lost a fair bit, not from sickness but because I wasn’t drinking alcohol (I was a fairly big drinker before) and was eating better.
If you weren’t underweight before I wouldn’t worry. You need surprisingly few calories to grow a person which is why a lot if people gain too much.
A few weeks postpartum I was a stone lighter than pre pregnancy and I’ve kept it off by staying away from the wine.
As long as baby growing fine don’t worry, but do seek help for the sickness.

I’m 38 weeks now OP and like you suffered terrible sickness. I’m still not back up to my 12 week weight but no one seems to be too worried. The midwives always said to me ‘just make sure you eat something’ they didn’t really mind what as they knew how badly I was struggling.

I've always put on weight when pregnant and have sworn I wouldn't this time... famous last words. I've not had sickness, just constant nausea feeling. I'm hoping once the first trimester is over, I'll be more inclined towards scratch cooking again. I usually love lots of vegetables but really not feeling them this time.
I know SW does weigh & support pregnant ladies (WW doesn't) so always worth a try if you need some help x

My midwife kept an eye on my weight after I queried if it was OK. She judged my weight gain from my lowest pregnancy weight rather than prepregnancy.

I am take a size small so didn't really have a great deal of weight to lose but there hasn't been a negative impact on either of our healths.

Sorry, totally mis-read what you were saying!!

I actually ended my last pregnancy lighter than I started it. I was overweight when I fell pregnant. Morning sickness caused me to lose weight in the first 3 months (I didn't have any of that in my first pregnancy). Then i plateaued for a while. Then acid reflux kicked in so y couldn't eat much without feeling sick again, but I did start gaining again in the last couple of months.

Apart from my booking in appointment, my midwife didnt ask about weight.

I've always struggled with my weight (as in I spend most of the time over weight!) and I deliberately monitored mine with slimming world during both pregnancies but I remember having awful sickness and reflux and the midwife saying to me drink plenty of fluids and if you cant stomach huge platefuls do a series of smaller snacks etc...
everyone is different tho but call the midwife and chat to her about it. I found ginger cake and ginger biscuits a good snack
