Flu vaccine 5 weeks pregnant

Hi, has anyone had the flu vaccine early in their first trimester? I can only find posts where people had it late in the first trimester, or in the 2nd/3rd trimesters. I’m 5-6 weeks pregnant

Thanks!

@lifeonmars12

I'm sorry for your sister and nephew but problems arising from modern vaccines are very rare and the dangers of not being vaccinated are very real.

By all means make your own choice but anti vac statements designed to stop people accepting vaccines (like 'pump your body full of unknown stuff') are irresponsible to the extreme.

Unless you grow all your own food and refuse all medication, most people will never know exactly what goes into their bodies... we trust scientists to do their job (that's how society works, no one can be an expert on everything).

I had mine through work just before I found out I was pregnant, must have been about 3/4 weeks. It’s absolutely fine. My MW just said it saved her the job of having to do it at my 16 week appointment and wasn’t concerned at all.

Thank you :)

I had it well before 8 week appointment (went in separately to doctor for jab as 8 week appointment was on phone.) It’s super safe. Good luck with pregnancy!

I had it at around 6 weeks too, all was fine. I didn't the flu, and didn't have any issues! A friend of mine caught the flu when 8 months pregnant last year (flu season crept up and she hadn't gotten around the having the jab, she just forgot) and was incredibly ill and in hospital for a week. She said it was incredibly scary and was so relieved that her little boy was ok- she had to be induced a little early because of it. The way I saw it, there's no real evidence of the flu vaccine harming the baby in utero but there is plenty of evidence of the flu harming baby so I didn't want to take that chance x

@Lifeonmars12

I’ve not bothered with it and I’m 25 weeks. It amazes me that people will do anything to protect baby inside the womb but are quite happy to fire a vaccine into them without any knowledge of what’s in it or what it can do.
There is quite extensive evidence of flu vaccines being safe and beneficial in pregnancy.

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE get your flu vaccine when pregnant. The issue isn’t the flu itself necessarily but that your immune system is compromised during pregnancy (thought to be so that you don’t attack the baby), and as a result you are at significantly higher risk of sepsis. Sepsis is a life threatening condition and if not spotted in time very often fatal. It is in fact the leading cause of maternal death in the UK.

I’m sorry you felt pressured to have the jab OP, I’m sure it is because the relevant healthcare professionals were just looking out for you and feel strongly about, it but it’s never right for you to feel like you don’t have a choice. Don’t worry about having it early on, it is an inactive form of the virus so won’t make you ill with flu, and has been used in many thousands of women at all stages of pregnancy.

If anyone stumbles across this post I just want to let you know that I had my 12 week scan and everything was measuring well / looking good as it currently stands Smile
