Has anyone been diagnosed with a divided uterus and a successful pregnancy?

I went to the EPU yesterday after experiencing light spotting which progressed to period like bleeding with very mild cramps. I was concerned as it is my first pregnancy and I didn’t know if it was normal for this to happen at 10 weeks. I had not yet had a scan to see the baby, my first scan was not for another three weeks (13 weeks). I was advised yesterday that I had suffered a complete miscarriage. 😢 I was also given a diagnosis of a potential divided uterus but I have to go back for further tests in March.

Has anyone been diagnosed with the same condition and/or had a miscarriage (1st pregnancy) and then gone on to have a successful pregnancy? I’ve read all sorts of horror stories and now I’m even more anxious about attempting to conceive again. Did anyone have a preterm baby/caesarean and how did this go?

Hey - yes, in short - depends a little bit what they mean by divided (whether bicornuate, or septate or Arcuate for example). Lots of these types of things have a higher chance of miscarriage but an even higher chance than that of normal pregnancy so try to stay positive! I think there are some previous threads on bicornuate at least, from the last few months perhaps. I’m sorry for your loss.

@Mccarthyknight so sorry for your loss. Do you have your scan report? Does it say what sort of divided uterus? So I had never had a gynae scan until this pregnancy when I was scanned at 5 and a bit weeks cos I thought I was miscarrying. I was diagnosed with a subseptate uterus and got conflicting advice about the likelihood this pregnancy would continue (sonographer said it wouldn’t be an issue; gynae nurse was unpleasantly pessimistic). I had two consecutive early losses prior to this at 6 and then 5 and a bit weeks so spent whole first trimester in pieces expecting further miscarriage. Had a scan at 7 weeks tho which showed heart beat. Paid for a private scan at 10 weeks.

All fine at 12 week scan except placenta was low. I’m booked at a central London hospital and they have a clinic that deals specifically with women who have problems such as divided uterus which was amazing. Was seen every two weeks in the second trimester from 16 weeks. Saw a professor who is expert in the field - she was very reassuring that I would most likely have a good outcome.

I’m now 36+1. Baby was still breech two weeks ago and I will have to have a section if it doesn’t flip as can’t have ECV with divided uterus. Placenta has moved up a bit (still on low side tho). So some minor issues but so far everything is good.

The information about divided uteruses on the internet is horrific. There’s very little research and most is based on women with poor outcomes. I am medical, and I tortured myself reading these studies in the first trimester. Divided uteruses are very common - most women have no idea they have one cos you usually can’t see them by 12 week scan - baby has pushed it out the way. Mine wasn’t visible.

My bump is slightly lopsided. I was told at the specialist clinic that the two early losses I had were likely the embryo implanting on the septum which isn’t viable. But so many pregnancies end in miscarriage I wonder if one of them may have been for another reason.

Hope this helps. Take care of yourself x x x

I’m sorry for your loss Flowers.
I had a MMC at 10 weeks and was told I have a bicornuate uterus. Drove myself half mad during my next pregnancy by worrying about MC/stillbirth, but DS was induced at 40 weeks and over ten pounds! Shock. There’s every chance your next pregnancy will be healthy.
