SPD? Not sure what this is.... perhaps over reacting!

Hi everyone!

I am expecting my 3rd and final baby and I am almost 24 weeks.

First I started off getting "pressure" down below after a long walk or 2.

Now for the past few days I have a constant pressure/ pain/ bruise type feeling in what I think is my pelvis/ pelvic bone/ pubis???? It's hard to pin point where?!

I'm normally very active, of normal weight (20 bmi) 5ft 8 .

Never felt this with my other 2.... it seems to be constant from walking to lying on my side. The only position I can't feel it is lying on my back?

Does anyone else know what this is? Not sure if it is spd or just pressure from additional weight etc and being 7 since my last baby ( I'm 31 now)

I am probably over reacting! 🤦🏽‍♀️

Any advice / experiences really appreciated xx

It could well be spd. I didn't get it with first pregnancy but did with second. It started off as an achy feeling but as time went on it became a sharp stabbing pain in the pubis.
It is not the kind of pain you should ignore and just push on with, if you do have spd doing that will make it worse and could give you nerve damage. Keeping your knees together as much as possible helps (like when you swing your legs out of the car) and taking the weight off when the pain happens. Mine got progressively worse until by the end of the pregnancy I had to hire a mobility scooter to go any kind of distance, even pegging out one load of washing was too long on my feet.
One thing you can do is get a support girdle, this holds your pelvis together and gives it the support your ligaments aren't. Really really effective so definitely look at that.

The midwife told me it spd is just your ligaments overreacting to the relaxin hormone, so nothing to do with age or weight.

I am suffering really badly when SPD and am only 13 weeks. The pain is excruciating. Where can one get the pelvic belt please?

RealisticSketch · 14/01/2021 20:11

I can't honestly remember where I got my girdle from, it was specifically for the problem though. Definitely a big investment, it just meant it took longer for the problem to stop me in my tracks and also relieved the pain. Sorry I can't point you in the right direction, I'm sure good old Google will get you there. Smile

Worth being aware that once you have spd it will affect every pregnancy you have. I was lucky it was my second and didn't want a third, I don't think I could have done it again. Sad

I feel like it may not be now.... I'v rested a lot today and it's eased.... or maybe that does happen with spd?!

Iv never had it so I know nothing about it whatsoever 🤦🏽‍♀️

This is my 3rd and FINAL. X

SPD does ease with rest, so that doesn't tell you much I'm afraid. The more you rest the better as SPD never improves as such so the only thing you can do is slow it down/not aggravate it as much as possible. Flowers

Have a look at pregnant and empowered on Instagram they have a story on SPD. I could barely shuffle around two days ago and after following their advice it has eased significantly! Main points I think worked were sitting down to get dressed and put on shoes, so never standing just on one leg. The second was the sleeping positions, making sure your knees are together and one doesn't come higher than the other.

I've also bought a support belt and an exercise ball as saw it recommended somewhere!
