What's classed as excessive weight gain in pregnancy?

Please don't quote the expected amount per week or give links to websites, I've read them.

I'm just wondering how much above the expected gain is typically considered excessive.

I started a 12st7, lost 6/7lbs in first trimester then put it all back on and more! I'm now 3kg above where I should be according to a weight gain calculator.

Depends on starting weight. I've see a guide of:

1 stone for overweight/obese
2 stone for normal weight
3 stone for underweight

I thought it depended on what weight you are at the beginning? 0.4kg over the recommended amount surely can’t be an issue either way?

Weird, thought I'd replied 😂 @dementedpixie that's what I think to so thanks for the reassurance. @Biscusting I'm 0.4st / 3kg over the expected gain Smile I was finding it difficult to judge 'excessive' because there's expected and then it jumps to excessive but there's no defined term as what is excessive but you're probably right less than half a stone over the expected is hardly excessive so thanks for the reassurance Smile

I remember seeing Holly Willoughby on 'This Morning' talking to a doctor about it, the doctor said the maximum anyone should gain is 2.5 stone, Holly said with her 3 pregnancies she gained 3 stone each time, the doctor didn't really have much of an answer and she looks amazing! I also remember reading somewhere that 90% of women after 2 years are back to their pre pregnancy weight so I wouldn't worry too much unless it was over 4 stone (that's saying your an average height/build) but like I said in a previous post the less you gain the easier it will be to loose after
