Brie alternatives?

I've got an absolute hankering for Brie and avocado sandwiches at the moment!
Obviously avocado I can have, but I really want it with Brie!!

Since Brie is a no no while pregnant, has anyone come across a safe alternative that might satisfy my craving??

I've read that if it is baked through then it's safe to eat, but not sure I can put gooey melted Brie in a sandwich!

I'd appreciate any recommendations!

Stilton?
Hard blue cheese is ok
Soft blue cheese ok if cooked

Could you cook the brie and then wait for it to cool down again? Not sure how that would affect the texture but worth a try!

Port Salut or pasteurised mozzarella.

Brie toasted sandwich with avocado on the side?

namechange34 · 13/01/2021 12:45

Pie d'angloys is pasteurized. I was introduced to it whilst pregnant and actually love it!

Sorry - pie d'angloys is pasteurised but it is mould-ripened like brie so not suitable if you are following NHS advice.

I used to eat this when I was pregnant. I suppose it depends on your 'level of risk' you're happy with but I deemed it acceptable as it's completely processed.

I'd just eat the Brie.

You may as well have pasteurised Brie then. They are both mould-ripened and therefore advised against by NHS.

I ate brie, certainly wasn't on the do not eat list then. Instead it was nuts that were the no no go figure

This feels like a thread where someone will shortly arrive to say that French women are not advised to avoid brie. They are, and the government advice is almost exactly the same as in the UK (with the addition that they are also advised to avoid ready-grated cheese, oddly). Individual women make their own judgements, of course, but the advice is no different.

Toastie that bitch up. Gooey brie spilling out of a toastie is perfection.

DueBabyMummy2B · 13/01/2021 13:07

Port salut. Definitely

Loving the suggestions! Thanks all!

Toasting definitely seems like a good option at the moment, I'll see if it satisfies my craving!
If not, my next food shop will include all the suggestions. I'll take one for the team and sample them all 😁
