Growth scan after reduced movements

I’m pregnant with DC3. I’m 29 weeks today and and at 28w0d and 28w6d I went to MAU with reduced movements. Both times I only felt a small amount of movements in the morning compared to usual and when trying things like cold drinks/sugary snacks , big meal etc to get things moving nothing worked for the rest of the day. When I got to MAU the first time baby moved on the monitor pretty much straight away. This was about 9pm. Yesterday I went in and was on the monitor at 6pm and it took about half an hour for baby to move, although once she finally got going she’d never been so active!

I felt very reassured both times after being monitored my only concern is why some days she is so unresponsive to the things that would usually get her moving. I assume at this point she just has lazy days but I’d hate for it to happen again and that not be the case so I’d always get checked out.

I have the growth scan tomorrow so of course will ask there but if all is ok at the scan do I take it as the reduced movements I experienced were just baby being a bit lazy? Also, my two other babies were quite big (not necessarily ‘big’ babies but higher end of average for their gestation when they were born). Does that get taken into account at the growth scan for subsequent children? E.g DS2 was always above 90th centile, if this baby was say 50th would that be considered normal or compared to previous big babies would they look to arrange another growth scan?

I get quite anxious around reduced movements as one of my relatives had a baby who was stillborn after experiencing reduced movements so it’s made me that little bit more aware of the importance of keeping on top of monitoring them. I’m a very anxious person anyway which doesn’t help but I feel better when I ask lots of questions.

Thank you!

I think at that gestation, baby is still fairly small and can 'hide' as there's still lots of room. So they may be moving and you don't feel it.

That said, you NEED to get advice every time. Just because baby was 'hiding' movements one day doesn't mean there isn't an issue that needs looking into on another day.

I totally empathise about the movements issue. I've got an anterior placenta this time and feel movements mostly when I'm paying attention. The rest of the time they're really 'light' or 'faint' so hard to know when to seek advice sometimes. Totally different from the gymnast/karate master I had the first time!!!

@physicskate thank you I thought that would be the case, it amazes me how much room they have in there to move sometimes!
I had an anterior placenta with my first, I could have been paying rent at MAU. I think because my two pregnancies after I’ve had the placenta at the back it’s surprised me how much you can actually feel! Hopefully as she grows it’s easier to feel more. Better to be safe than sorry I suppose!
