When will bump show?

Hi everyone. A very nervous first timer here! I'm 14 weeks pregnant and just wondering when bump is going to make an appearance? When did your bumps start to show? I've seen a couple of people at 14 weeks and they've got a really noticeable bump! Makes me quite anxious..

Any advice or reassurance would be fab x

I could have written this post myself when I was in my earlier weeks ! I'm now 38 weeks with a definite bump. For me it was around 6 months when it became more 'rounded' and from then on it formed a neat little bump fairly steadily! We didn't tell people we were expecting until 5.5months and when I did they were in shock because I was fairly flat! So please don't worry :-) everyone is different and some will have had a sizeable bump from the first few months, especially if it isn't their first
HalfShrunkMoreToGo · 13/01/2021 09:06

I was plus size but for me it was around 20-22 weeks, by 30 weeks I had a very definite bump, by 36 weeks I was the size of a small house with massive boobs🤣

Schoolhouse123 · 13/01/2021 09:10

Really does depend but I was around 18 weeks when I was noticeable and then very quickly got bigger (baby was 9+lb).
With second pregnancy it's usually sooner.
You often just find you've 'popped' overnight. I was on holiday with limited clothing at 9 weeks during second pregnancy woke up one morning unable to fasten any trousers.

Oneandabean · 13/01/2021 09:53

It can depend on many things such as strength of tummy muscles, body size/shape and position of baby. Don’t worry about it. With my first I was in maternity stuff from 10 weeks and a definite bump by 15. This time I had huge bloating from the very beginning and looked 6 months pregnant, eventually bump replaced bloat but I’m not sure exactly when that happened. It’s different for everyone try not to compare.

DelurkingAJ · 13/01/2021 09:55

About 21 weeks with DS1 who was a fairly average size baby. About 12 weeks with DS2 as my muscles had clearly given up in between!

Smoa9 · 13/01/2021 10:01

I'm 23 weeks with DC2 and still no bump.

user1493413286 · 13/01/2021 10:03

With my first I didn’t really show until after 20 weeks and I think people still would have been unsure to say for definite. With my second it was more like 17-18 weeks.

Garman · 13/01/2021 10:21

I didn't show until about 30 weeks on both dc1 and dc2, everyone is different in terms of your body shape, torso space and how the bump develops so don't compare yourself.

ShowOfHands · 13/01/2021 10:24

It depends upon so many factors. I have a very short torso and am slim with nowhere for the baby to go but out so was visibly showing by 14 weeks. My colleague is 6f 2" with a very long torso and still didn't look pregnant at 7 months.

buckingmad · 13/01/2021 10:25

I am petite and short bodied so I already have a little bump at 12 weeks with my first. From 5 weeks I was really bloated so have been in stretchy leggings ever since then a few days ago the bloat went and left a neat little bump!

Someone had the exact same question 🙂
Lots of good replies

I've always had quite a narrow waist but you could tell I was pregnant from around 17 weeks. At the time I thought I had a big bump but it was tiny! As soon as 28 weeks hit I had a good bump and by 35 weeks I was absolutely gigantic! My daughter was 7lb11oz in the end.

Scaredykittycat · 13/01/2021 11:10

I remember crying because I really wanted a bump! It made a very small appearance (unnoticeable to anyone else) at about 17 weeks.

nervousfirsttime · 13/01/2021 11:19

Thank you so much everyone for your responses it really re assured me! I suppose we're all just different eh?! 😂

Thank you! Xx

All I had at 14 weeks is a bit of bloat and could still wear my high-waisted skinny jeans. I'm 24 weeks today (FTM) and still haven't told people at work. My waist is definitely bigger but I don't have what people call a pregnancy bump (round, obvious) and you wouldn't guess I'm pregnant if you didn't know. I had the appointment for the whooping cough vaccination this morning and the nurse triple checked she had heard me correctly when she asked how far along I am. Before my 20 week scan, I was quite anxious to find out if everything was developing normally as everyone else in my "cohort" seemed to have a good bump already by then. Coupled with that, I have an anterior placenta so I had only felt a few very gentle movements by then, which added to my worries about baby's wellbeing.

Don't worry about it. Your uterus only comes up above your pelvic bone after 12 weeks. I'm sure baby is doing well in there. Smile If you have a face-to-face appointment at 16 weeks, you'll hopefully get to hear baby's heartbeat.

One thing that hasn't been mentioned above is that some women have a tilted or retroverted uterus (almost 1 in 5 women, if I remember correctly), and those women will have a barely-there bump although the pregnancy is developing normally.

Thank you so much that's really good help, hope you and baby are keeping well xx

It depends on your frame tbh. Don't worry about it as it will emerge soon enough.
I've always just looked podgey until 16 weeks plus even with our twins, I'm 5ft 8. Once the bumps popped there was no mistaking they were bumps lol. The twin bump got a lot of attention and left me with diastasis recti (ab separation).

kallia · 13/01/2021 13:02

Also bear in mind that 'bump pics' (especially early ones) are usually taken in tight clothing for a reason! I'm 16 weeks and average frame, with a definite bump underneath my clothes but once I'm dressed no-one would notice! So don't compare yourself in regular clothes to the Insta-bump.

MimiDaisy11 · 13/01/2021 13:11

I was curious about this too and did some searches. I'm taller than the average woman and from posts on that it does seem to show less and much later into pregnancy. I've heard heavier women say the same. So I wouldn't worry. I imagine skeleton and posture also play a part.

BikeRunSki · 13/01/2021 13:21

1st pg - about 7 months (I lost a lot of weight in earlier months)
2nd pg - about 8 weeks

AnnaSW1 · 13/01/2021 13:27

Around 6 months for me

Sceptre86 · 13/01/2021 19:28

Around 6 months with dd but more like 8-10weeks with ds. I was slim the first time around and carried more across my hips, with ds I was a lot fatter and all out front.

PFin · 13/01/2021 19:59

Everyones different, dont let what everyone else's 'bump' looks like get to you! First time round I didnt look pregnant till at least 6 months! This time round i defo had a wee bump earlier at about 16 weeks but not able to notice under clothes!

EllyNC · 13/01/2021 20:05

To look at myself, I had a bump from 14-15 weeks but nobody else would have noticed it haha. A more obvious bump appeared almost overnight At about 16 weeks! Everyone’s different, don’t worry ☺️

nervousfirsttime · 13/01/2021 20:27

Thank you ladies it feels good to hear how everyone is different Smilexx
