Due date Sunday.. FTM.. starting to cack myself a little!
Here is what I have packed, do you guys think I have missed anything?
I also need to grab some food and bits. Apart from Lucozade, squash and banana chips which I already have, what food would you recommend taking?
Thank you in advance :)

Nappies and wipes?

What about clothes/pjs for you? I took flip flops which was a great idea for shuffling around and to wear in the shower. I also took a dressing gown and was glad to have the home comfort. Found earplugs a waste of time as I needed to hear if my baby cried (and even that didn't wake me up after three nights of labour and then no sleep on the ward with (other) babies screaming.

I took snacks like skittles and flapjacks. Wanted the sugar!!

But I couldn't reach my bag or really get into it that night as I couldn't get out of the bed (terrible pgp, epistiomy and epidural wearing off).

I'd also take arnica tablets.

A zip up hoodie or similar in case you feel chilly. Fluffy socks for you.

Flip flops to wear in the shower and going to toilet, necessities!
Some energy type sweets, lozenges

I’d take out the breast pads and add in flip flops. I’d also take an iPad if you have one.

Snack wise, I had flapjacks, Ritz crackers, jelly babies and trail mix. I basically devoured the flapjacks and Lucozade and brought everything else back.

For labour...

  • I took a 4 pack of lucozade isotonic (caffeine free) drink for both my labours - they were marathons and these kept me going as I didn't fancy eating anything
  • bottled water for you both (we got through them even though the water cooler wasn't too far)
  • tens machine for pain relief

Post labour...

  • some stodgy flapjack bars, packet of biscuits, cheesy bites and bottled water (you can't have enough lol)
  • thin dressing gown, I found this handy when popping to the loo etc.
  • and totally agree with the flip flops (nhs showers give me the ick lol)

Your partner should have a bag with all the things they need too (my DH even made a sign to put on the dash board of the car in case we couldn't find parking and baby was on the way. I think it said something like "wife in labour, dropping off, back shortly, name, number".

Also my partner packed baby's bag and got familiar with it all as they were going to do the first nappy change etc - I wasn't it any state to.

Hope it goes well!

  • Own pillow
  • Eye mask (if you struggle to sleep in light rooms)
  • hand held fan
  • More Muslins
  • Mini bottles of ready to drink formula (useful if you need to top up even if planning to breastfeed)
  • Breakfast snacks

Take out cotton wool, coconut oil
Add in baby wipes, change for car park, paracetamol

Ear plugs and a dummy.

Flannels, frozen, then in a zip lock bag with an ice block.

Maternity wards are so warm and it was wonderful to have something cooling.
