Has anyone had severe PGP in a first pregnancy and gone on to have a second?

I was on crutches from about 14 weeks and in the late stages housebound. For that reason I decided I didn't want any more children. I also had horrible PND but that's a separate issue.

DS is now 14 months and my goodness he's wonderful. So wonderful that the door is starting to open to a second. It would still be a few years off so we can manage nursery fees etc but I wondered if anyone else had been through it.

I know PGP is usually worse and starts earlier and it's really putting me off. I can try loosing more weight etc to see if it makes a difference but I'm so scared of going through it all again.

Hi. I had terrible pgp with first pregnancy. I was on crutches from 25 ish weeks because that was when I saw the physio and was given them, but could have benefitted from them from earlier! Housebound by 31 weeks.

I'm pregnant with number 2. I'm 28 weeks. Ok, I'm not going for walks and taking it as easy as I can, but I'm more or less still able to take dd (22 months) to the park, potter about, walk a few hundred metres when needed, etc...

I do get pain, but it's totally bearable. It started about 5 weeks earlier this time for me (about 8 weeks). But I'm ok and a million times better than last time.

The difference? My osteopath!!!!!!! I see her every 2-3 weeks and it is the best money I've ever spent.

I saw her twice about 6 months pp as was still having issues. She said to see her if I had a second and that she thinks I won't need crutches this time (and I think she's right). I couldn't have done this again without her.

You need a chiropractor or osteopath with experience of pregnancy. A list of recommended practitioners is found on the pelvic partnership website.

Just wanted to join this.. also thinking about another baby. I had severe pgp from 16 weeks with my ds and was on crutches by 26 weeks. I suffered with my symphysis pubis only but so intensely! I still can't lay on my side for very long now. I have seen a osteopath and that has made a huge difference. Trying not to let it put me off thinking about another (and running around after a toddler when pregnant too!) But it does put me off. No advice here just a hand hold. Its horrific and unless you've been there you can't understand

Both pregnancies I had PGP, crutches 20 weeks first time 16 weeks the second. Used an osteopath both times and acupuncture. I still ended up not being able to drive or walk far enough, I had a 2 year old daughter 2nd time round who I couldn’t pick up. I did hire a mobility scooter from 32 weeks so we could go to the park and on day trips with DH. I think I am one of the few that got more sleep with a newborn than in pregnancy. We survived but I definitely won’t go there again despite wanting 4. I am hyper mobile so it was expected in a sense.

If you need a mobility scooter the local shop mobility place might hire you one think it cost me about £30 a month it was a lifesaver if not really embarrassing.

I had it badly in my first pregnancy could barely stagger by the end. Had it again in my second pregnancy but no where near as bad. I was still uncomfortable and in pain but I could walk, just about run in an emergency and just get in and out of bed unaided. I had a much smaller baby second time and I think that made the difference

Oh I had it so horribly, it was such a shock. I thought I'd breeze pregnancy! I'm hypermobile and my joints just fell apart (the formal diagnosis 🤣), my son is 2 and I'm still a mess, can you believe it?

If I was going to have another baby I would spend a good 6 months doing every butt, hip, thigh and back strengthening exercise I possibly could to get the muscles as strong as possible to support your pelvis. I would also start seeing an osteopath every few weeks.

TooManyKidsSendHelp · 12/01/2021 06:17

You poor thing, it's horrible.

I've had it with both, but found it more manageable this time around. I'm 35 weeks today and still able to walk around without assistance. Last time that wouldn't have been possible.

I'm not sure why there's been this difference. Maybe because I knew it was coming so I was better prepared?

Sounds like an osteopath would be a winner if we do decide to have number 2. It wasn't something I could afford during my last pregnancy because I hadn't saved for it. Obviously with the knowledge that I'll need one I can be prepared and put that money away. We only ever wanted 2 so this would definitely be my last pregnancy. Thanks everyone.
