Anexity over large baby

Mommaleigh · 10/01/2021 12:33

Pregnant with second child
First weighed over 10lbs at birth had him at 42 weeks.
2nd degree tare and episiotomy, back to back labour son was resuscitated at birth and had to be monitored for days after, out for one day and back in due to jaundice.

Now have constant anexity over another large baby, has anyone's first baby been big and they've been induced early on their next?

My mom's always been induced and my nan. So I feel we are all the same and don't go into labour naturally .

How many weeks are you? Have you had a rough idea of size on 20 weeks scan? Discuss with your midwife as I believe they can induce you at term. Especially with your issues at the first birth

Mommaleigh · 10/01/2021 12:42

Hey I'm 32 weeks now. I do have a scan in just over a week. Wasn't told anything at 20 weeks scan other that everything with baby looks fine. But that was the same last time.

Thank you for your response x

That sounds like a very scary thing to have gone through in your first labour. I can understand your apprehension about your second.

If the MW team have any concerns regarding the size of your baby they will likely refer you to a consultant and arrange some growth scans. These are notoriously inaccurate though, so don't get hung up on the baby's weight if you do have these.

I had a large first baby (11lb 6.5) and had an elective section at 39 weeks with my second. I was advised if I had wanted a VBAC they would also have induced at 39 weeks.

welshladywhois40 · 10/01/2021 13:24

My sister's first baby was over 10 pounds and her second was 8 pounds. Both overdue by 10 days, first was a boy and second was a girl.

Mommaleigh · 10/01/2021 13:37

Thanks for your response guys.

Yes I've got a consultation on the same day as my scan but never really been given much information.

My anexity is through the roof, the thought of being let to go that far over due again after the complications.

Hopefully they do induced me early as after all that last time I was so worried about my baby's health

I'm not surprised that you're worried OP,
the thought of childbirth is scarey enough the first time round but it sounds like you had a real time of it.... If I were you I'd write your worries down to clarify them, then write a list of questions to take with you to your next appointment.

Sultanainasalad · 10/01/2021 13:46

Would you consider pushing got a c-section OP? A planned c-section can be a wonderful experience. I know not all NHS teams will offer them for mental health issues, but plenty do.

CherryRoulade · 10/01/2021 13:55

My first and most complicated labour was the first. She was well over 9lb and had a sever shoulder dystocia as she was very long and thin. Next was 10lb 2oz and no problems at all really - a cord around his neck which was sorted and minimal trauma for me.
Last was 9lb 13oz, a six hour labour and not so much as a graze - we walked around a supermarket two hours later.

Nochristmasbreak · 10/01/2021 14:21

Don't drink loads of milk. I know that sounds weird but I had a big dairy craving when I was late in pregnancy, from about 34 weeks onwards. Drinking loads of milk, ice cream yoghurt, but mostly lots of milk (I dont usually like milk)

Baby was 10lbs, I read that milk can make milk babies big in late pregnancy. May not be true, but consider anyway.

Chelyanne · 10/01/2021 14:45

If you are worried you can ask them rather than wait for them to offer. Induction is not a fun experience though. I had one with our 1st due to high BP, I wouldn't volunteer for one again.

Our 2nd was big at 10lb 12oz at 40+5, episiotomy but otherwise fairly good delivery. We had our 3rd 16.5mth after him. They never offered me induction with her and she came naturally at 40+2 weighing 9lb 10oz. Her labor was a breeze after the big lad.

Mommaleigh · 10/01/2021 14:54

Thanks all for the advice.

With the added pain in my groin and Spd much worse than it was first pregnancy and being stuck in with a two year old while in a pandemic probably isn't helping as my husband is at works alot. I've had to stop work early as of the pain in groin.

I'm glad you mentioned about the milk as that's exactly what I'm starting to crave now.

Im just worried about not being listened to as I didn't have a good midwife last time and was afraid to speak up x

I had an elective C-Section a week early because baby was 10lb 1oz and showing reduced movements. It was the right decision for me and definetly for the baby according to my consultant. I'm pregnant again and will be having another csection

E1ffelTower · 10/01/2021 16:09

I don’t think the problems with the birth last time were directly linked to the baby’s weight. I can completely understand how scared you must be though. I had a 10lb 5oz baby and then 10lb 2.5oz baby. Yes I tore with the first baby but that was it. She was back to back also. Second baby pretty much fell out. I was seven days and five days overdue respectively.

Seriously79 · 10/01/2021 16:09

My first was 10lbs delivered in theatre with forceps.

They told me my 2nd was gonna be big too, after numerous scans, but she was 8lbs 1oz.

CC12x · 10/01/2021 16:43

My first was 10lbs 5oz and was a bit stunned when he was first born and didn't cry, was worried my second would be the same as was told she was big baby but was she 9lbs and I got induced and it was very straight forward labour. She's now 9 weeks, dont be afraid every labour is different. Good luck x

Nochristmasbreak · 10/01/2021 18:22

@Mommaleigh you are craving it too?

I read that it's because the bones are growing/forming/hardening or something I can't remember but said craving in late pregnancy of milk can babies really large will see if I can find the link and post it.

I was drinking one of those big 4 pinters some days. Shock

My follow babies of the same sex were actually smaller but I managed my 10lb6oz one just fine so completely different.

You could ask for a c-section?

Your SPD is probably worse because you are looking after a toddler (picking him up and not resting) already Sad

spotlovesbedtime · 10/01/2021 22:13

My first DC was 11lb 1ounce at 42 weeks, there was no indication of this during pregnancy, I had an emergency section, with 2nd DC I was given growth scans and told they didn't want me going over 40 weeks. Baby was measuring big and a section was booked at 40 weeks, I wasn't worried about large baby and had a VBAC in the end, I did have waters broken instead of the section. Baby was 9lb 2 ounces. My midwife always reassured me that big babies weren't always worse to deliver, it's probably just down to luck. Mine weren't in great positions and I did struggle, but it wasn't necessarily due to their size. Try not to worry but do explain your fears to a consultant and your midwife.

TopBants · 10/01/2021 22:16

If you go in for three incidences of reduced movement past 37 weeks gestation, generally they'll offer to induce just to be on the safe side... Just saying.

Simonfromharlow · 10/01/2021 22:19

Agree with others. Births are all different ans the first birth is usually harder. My sister had a very traumatic birth for her first and the second shot out haha.

I had a long hard birth for my first who was 8lb 12 ans my second was born in 41 mins. He was 11lbs!

Scaredykittycat · 10/01/2021 22:22

My first was nearly 10lbs. Was predicted second would be over 10lbs. Was actually less than 8lbs! However I had a c section for mental health reasons (first was an emergency section which thankfully avoided shoulder dystocia which I was told would definitely had happened and I was very traumatised)

SmileyClare · 10/01/2021 22:26

If it's any consolation, my second almost ten pound baby was far far easier to deliver than the first. Everything down there seemed to have remained stretched from the first! My first took a very long time, he got stuck and the midwife was clearly panicked, the room filled with doctors and he was wrestled out with forceps very forcibly, causing bad tearing and leaving him with a terrible black eye and suspected arm dislocation. It was very frightening.

My second equally big baby was a quick labour and he came out quickly with out intervention.

I'm not sure how mobile you can be with your spd but standing during labour using gravity with a big baby will help enormously.

I'm sorry you're so anxious, it sounds like your first delivery was traumatic. That doesn't mean your second labour will follow the same course. I hope you're able to talk that through with your midwife or consultant.

I thought you could be induced if you have spd? Especially if the pain is making you immobile and affecting you badly.

RandomMess · 10/01/2021 22:35

I delivered on my hand and knees, much easier than sitting up! One of the midwives kept wanting me to sit down but not only does it make it harder it was far more painful!

Floralnomad · 10/01/2021 22:41

I had an elective section with my second . First was 10lb 4 oz , I needed a massive amount of stitches , baby ended up in SCBU and I then fainted in the bathroom , bashed my head on a sink and needed a 4 unit blood transfusion , there was no way I was risking that again . Section was great , out of hospital in 2 days , driving the car within 2 weeks .
