Any recommendations on how to stop or ease Braxton hicks?

35 weeks, I was advised to go up to maternity last night after haven't constant tightenings with pain and lower back pain as they were concerned about preterm labour. Monitored and there definitely was quite a lot of tightenings although short but there and fairly consistent. My tests for preterm labour all came back negative and cervix was measuring 3cm on ultrasound so all very reassuring. But have been told to come back if they don't settle and if that was the case to bring a bag with me as I wouldn't be going home! Obviously really don't want to be admitted as I have two other children who are currently off school with the current situation! Other than staying off my feet and hydrated can anyone recommend anything? Thanks!

Hey I've just had the exact same thing. 35 weeks 5 days. Lost my mucus plug last Sat and then strong, regular braxton hicks started. They were coming every minute and lasting 30 secs plus really bad lower back pain.
Went straight to see MW, in case it was early labour - but an examination showed my cervix was still closed and waters hadn't broken, so I was told to come back for regular checks. By Weds the braxton hicks hadn't stopped - I was absolutely exhausted -tried all the things, bathing, changing position & paracetamol. And my back ache was much worse. But cervix was still showing as closed on internal examinations.
However they did decide it wasn't safe for me to leave, so I spent Weds - Fri in hospital (total nightmare as I have a 4 y/o at home). They ran every test from scanning to check for placental abruption to checking for any kind of infection from covid to UTI's that could be causing the contractions. Everything came back clear.
Baby was happy on all traces & scans, and the contractions finally eased off on Friday morning so the could discharge me, thank god.
I think maybe the two days on enforced bed rest in the hospital really helped. They did also give me codiene - which didn't stop the contractions at the time, but perhaps helped to relax my body so they eventually eased off about 24 hours later. It also really helped me get some rest finally and eased the back ache.
When they discharged me they said I had to take it really easy at home - no exerting myself etc.
I asked them what they thought had happened and they said it could be just that I'm in an incredibly slowly progressing early labour, or that because it's my second baby the uterus might be much more sensitive & responsive, so braxton hicks can get much more intense.
Either way they said the outlook for babies born around this time is really good, so not too worry too much etc.
Since I've been home things have been a lot better - much less braxton hicks and no back ache. But my partner has been doing everything - he won't even let me do the laundry (its kind of driving me mad, resting doesn't come easily to me)
I've been careful not to lift my daughter up, spend to long on my feet etc. & taking a bath every night.
Been having lots of low down period like cramps though - so I am starting to wonder if labour is close. But I'm also prepared for this to go on for weeks, just hoping I don't have to be readmitted to hospital.
They did say if this is still going on at 37 weeks I'll be induced - so not long to go. They've also booked me for an extra scan next week, and extra outpatient visits.
Good luck with yours, I hope they calm down by themselves!

The MW told me if they come on strong again to lie down on my side, take paracetamol, drink a glass of water, and possibly have a bath. If they don't stop within an hour of that I have to come back in for a check.
A friend also advised magnesium flakes in the bath to help ease braxton hicks, and one of the nurses in hospital suggested camomile tea.

This is great thank you all so much! Thankfully my children are a bit older 9 and 7... This one was a surprise 🤣 and they have both been so understanding and helpful and have been waiting on me hand and foot!

@user1466068383 Sounds exactly like what has happened with me. I went on a very short work round to collect work packs from my child's school like a 10 minute walk and half way round felt a big wet gush! Panicked got home thankfully relieved it was just my mucous plug! So sat my bum down and started having pains later on but they did ease off but got horrendous on Saturday morning and last all through to the evening hence my phonecall to eou. They were brill, so thorough, on the monitor for an hour, did the preterm labour test, cervix check and ultrasound, ultrasound of baby who is perfect just a little chunky( which I'm expecting anyway as the first two were big) and took bloods as well. Still having them this morning but they are more spaced out than yesterday so spending time on the sofa today and not moving so fingers crossed the ebb off. I can go see my midwife on Thursday if I need to but also have an appointment the following week already booked for 36 weeks anyway. Good to know they'll induce early and they'll not leave me in agony of it continues on!
