Water breaking?

FTM, 39+4. Yesterday about 5am I started having Braxton Hicks, I have experienced them a few times now. But when I went for a pee shortly afterwards, my pants were very wet. It definitely wasn't urine because of the smell and colour and I don't think it was just mucus, as I started losing the mucus plug last week and have been losing bits and pieces of since then which have been clear and strigt. This was just wet, like fluid. I wasn't sure whether it was just discharge though.
Yesterday through the day I wore a pad and had a bit of fluid, again I'm sure it wasn't urine, but it could have just been wet discharge?
This morning I have had much the same, except at one point I felt it trickling out. Has anyone had this experience and it was their waters breaking? I think I will have to give the maternity ward a call, but I don't want to be a pain. I haven't had any more Braxton hicks or contractions since yesterday morning.
Thanks in advance

Yes this sounds exactly how my waters went. Call the midwife. Best of luck for safe delivery of little one Flowers

Yes this is how my waters went, Definitely contact maternity as they like labour to start not long after your waters go really as infection risk increases after your waters break.

I had this exact thing 2 days ago! From 7am to 12noon I monitored it with a pad and I had definite episodes of trickling and other times just feeling really wet. I called triage and they got me to come in and get checked by the doctor. Turns out it was just a large increase in discharge and not my waters. I asked how I’m meant to know the difference then as it 100% felt like I was leaking at points and she said I wouldn’t really and that’s why they are there. Call them and get checked, best to make sure and they won’t think your being a pain. Good luck

Yes me! Please call the maternity unit. They can check with some kind of litmus paper whether it's your waters or not.
I was turned away by the midwife. I'll never forget she said,"honey, you'll know when your waters break." That was on the 11th - and DD was already 1 week overdue. On the 16th they induced me and went to break my waters only to find there weren't any!! Panic stations ensued and I was administered antibiotics for the next 24 hours (I was also strep B+ ). DD was delivered safely on 17th but had the driest, flakiest skin I'd ever seen on a baby!
Don't let them turn you away without being checked. Because it was my first, I didn't argue. With my second, I'll be more insistent. All the best!

Yes absolutely they can trickle out rather than gush.

Thanks for everyone's replies, I am waiting in triage now to be seen to make sure. Thank you!

Was it waters OP? Xx

Belalice · 10/01/2021 18:49

Just back, not waters, just discharge and mucus! I am relieved I don't have to thinking about inductions today, but a bit disappointed that I won't be meeting baby soon! Midwives were great and said it was worth me coming in though, thanks for everyone's advice xx

Oh hope you get to meet your little one soon OP. x

Foundmyfeet · 10/01/2021 21:58

Glad the midwives were understanding. It won't be much longer now until you have your precious bundle in your arms. Bear

Rainb0wDrops · 10/01/2021 22:03

That's interesting. When my waters went it was definitely a gush (!) - no mistaking it!
I didn't understand why the hospital insisted on examining me to check as there was no doubt in my mind but clearly that's not always the case.

Foundmyfeet · 11/01/2021 10:29

@Rainb0wDrops I always thought it would be a gush. Afterall, that's how it is in the movies! I was very surprised by the "leakage" being the waters. I even put a sanitary pad in and walked around for 30 minutes as advised but it was dry as a bone! That's how little it was. But it was definitely my waters.

Belalice · 16/01/2021 03:29

Just an update, my waters definitely broke about an hour ago- the pop woke up me and there was a huge gush! So I'm very glad I don't have to wonder whether it has broken in a slow trickle again! Contractions are just starting, very excited!
