Induction- balloon offered- can I push for a pessary/drip instead?

Hello lovely ladies. I have been booked for an induction next week as I will be 41 weeks then (ftm). I was told that my hospital does the induction with a balloon first. I inquired whether I could have a pessary instead but was told that the hospital uses balloons because of covid (I don’t understand why covid has anything to do with it). I need to read up more on it but I feel like balloons take longer and are more uncomfortable. Does anyone have any experience with pushing for a pessary/drip instead? I am not too fussed about natural labour as I want an epidural. I also would want to get labour over with as soon as possible rather than wait around in the ward for something to happen. Thank you in advance!

I think with the balloon you can go home for a bit whereas with pessary/drip you need to stay in hospital. They’re keen especially at the moment to keep people out of hospital as much as possible

I am booked in for a balloon induction next week - also 41 weeks.
I've been told that usually balloons are used to allow you to go home but due to covid I won't be allowed to leave. Once they have you in and covid tested they don't want you leaving and coming back.

I'm not familiar with the pros and cons of different induction methods. But just so you know you 100% have the right to decline and use your preferred method, just like any other type of medical care they can't force you one way or another.

I will be having the balloon induction this time (3wks time) I've only heard positive reviews of it.

Thank you for your inputs ladies. I had a call with a lovely midwife who explained the difference and I feel quite comfortable with either option now. She said they will assess me on my induction day- if cervix is not at all dilated they might offer a pessary, if cervix is dilated they will offer a balloon. They also let you go home after the appointment and then come back the next day.

Just wanted to add - balloons are great. Glad you’ve had some explanation. Hope all goes well for you!
