Hi all,
Has anyone experienced this? I'd say bordering on migraine, before I never really got them only before my period. Always start late morning, sometimes paracetamol gets rid of it, but today nothing is working including copious amounts of water :( it's like a tight band around my head and behind my eyes with sensitivity to light, feel dizzy too. When should you be worried about this, is it normal? X

I had quite bad headaches early in my second trimester. From what I could gather when I had them it can be quite normal at that stage for some women but I would say still contact your midwife and mention it just to be safe and see what she says.

At the time, my midwife advised me to drink lots of water (she recommended about 3 litres a day) and eat little and often healthy food and snacks which really helped mine.

I could have written this post! I've had a headache all day which hasn't budged. I used to get them just before my period(and take ibuprofen) but paracetamol hasn't touched it at all. I've tried drinking plenty of water today and think I need to get more sleep but it's still there tonight with no sign of improving. I dont want to bother the midwife but I may call tomorrow to see if there's anything I can try to make it go away .

I feel I could have also written this post! I'm 15 weeks + 1 and have been suffering with headaches the past week, especially with light/laptop screen when working! I never ever usually get them and also feels like a tight band around my head.

I've been using something called 4head which seems to ease them a little and is suitable for pregnancy, maybe try this too?

If anybody has any other tips I'd really appreciate them too! Thank you

Hope you aren't suffering too much x

Thank you for all the replies, ahh that's comforting to hear others have the same but not great for you either Sad after googling a lot it seems quite common at this stage so probably hormones, my sickness and tiredness only just gone and now the headaches started!
Mine too get worse when on a laptop 😰 and yes I miss ibuprofen paracetamol doesn't seem to do much for me at all!
I drank as much water as I could and had a small chocolate bar which actually seemed to help! I will definitely get the 4head stuff :) x

Hi Ladies,

I’m 20 weeks today and have had them throughout. Paracetamol often doesn’t touch them but finding eating little sugary snacks often helped!

Also, sounds gross but I have never had nose bleeds until pregnant and I always feel like the blood has dried and clogged up my sinuses so use a nasal rinse now and again and try to blow my nose often!

Apart from that, a heat pack over my eyes, 4head and sugary snacks seem to help! Xx

I got bad headaches when pregnant which were due to low blood pressure. I also used 4head and found it to be really good.

Keyboard91 · 08/01/2021 01:52

4head and a small bit of caffeine like a can of Coke Zero along with plenty of fluids and paracetamol got me through last time. There is caffeine in chocolate so that plus the sugar may be what helped.

Worth mentioning to you MW as you are concerned

Smileandtheworldsmileswithyou · 08/01/2021 03:51

Hi,

I'm also 15 weeks pregnant and have been getting bad headaches. My dr told me to try taking two magnesium and calcium tablets and they have been helping.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 08/01/2021 03:56

I had acupuncture for these but something rose that helped was full sugar blackcurrant cordial... I don't know why but acupuncturist recommended it and I'd add it to the pints of water I was drinking.

Opticabbage · 08/01/2021 10:08

I second caffeine. I have to have a coffee a day during pregnancy or the headaches feel deadly!

Sitchervice · 08/01/2021 10:23

@sarahjsdddd I had the same thing I ended up being diagnosed with dry eye.

But it's worth seeking out a doctor or talk to midwife just incase they want to check some pesky hornmones. They will also advise you to see an optician as well.

ArtfulScreamer · 08/01/2021 10:49

I'm also 15 weeks and had a stinker of a headache yesterday which I'd had for 2 days (I got them in my last pregnancy to) what I think finally shifted it as paracetamol wasn't cutting it was a can of DHs full fat coke, I think it's the combination of sugar and caffeine particularly as I've been avoiding caffeine all pregnancy but I figured one can wouldn't harm and I vaguely remembered something similar working last pregnancy.

Sceptre86 · 08/01/2021 11:10

Get a blood pressure machine and check your blood pressure when you are having such symptoms and also inform your midwife. It could just be regular headaches and if that is the case, 4head, paracetamol and resting when you are able should help. It could be pre-eclampsia though so inform midwife and check blood pressure.

sarahjsdddd · 08/01/2021 11:20

Would a pharmacy check blood pressure? I really want to avoid my midwife anytime I have contacted I just get fobbed off. No headaches today though so I think could be the mix of caffeine/low blood sugar x

Yes that reminds me I did keep glucose sweets in the car around that same time.. It will pass tho. I got it again when I stopped bf, it's the hormones unfortunately.

sarahjsdddd · 08/01/2021 14:04

That's a great idea thank you, I'm still breastfeeding too so that's probably contributing! X
