I can't tell dh as he was clear no more babies (we have 5). It was very painful to move on but I did, even returning to school last year in the UK to get my masters. But I am having serious morning sickness and all the other symptons which never happened when I miscarried twice before in my early forties. I truly believed my fertilty days were over given the miscarriages and changes in my body/cycle. (and yes, I was taking precautions). I actually though the flush in my face and overheating was hot flashes. Surprise surprise! I am too scared yet to be happy and things could still go wrong but I don't think so. When I get morning sickness, I have successful pregnancies, if I don't, I lose the baby is my history. Two years ago, I would have been estatic, but right now I am stunned. Any words of advice from other older mothers. I keep feeling I am going to become a laughing stock for being so old and having this happen again.

ok, I am feeling better as I knew I would on mumsnet. The other kids are 10, 9, 7, 5 and 3. dh may be suspcious already, he keeps asking me why I am so tired. Mum2bejan, dh and I also have been talking about our retirement and what we would do once the kids are out of the house (except the last who likely will travel with us a bit. We had our flat in london already picked out in our minds and the neighborhood after we paid off our canadian property, we would spend most of our time in the UK. Thanks for all your kind words, I will remember them when I start getting the mean comments that I had with my fifth. Who knows, maybe he will be happy but will be shocked as I haven't talked about wanting a baby for so long and it used to be such a sore point. Oh well, I think by 3 months when I have told everyone and am sure everything is fine medically, I will allow my self to be thrilled.

Only just seen this thread. christie have you told DH? What did he say?

I am 44 and have a 7 mo "surprise" baby . She is our 5th and my others are 21, 20, 18 and 16.

So far no comments about my age. DH is worried about being the grandfather at the school gates but WTH. We'll deal with that when we get there.

Congratulations!

Congratulations Christie!

How long are you planning to leave it before you tell DH?

MicrowaveOnly · 31/10/2007 11:23

to have a big brood must be amazing.

I appreciate that it must be v. difficult to go back to it all again though, blame hubby for being too darn fertile!

slippeddisc · 31/10/2007 11:40

CONGRATULATIONS!

I'm 41 and having my first (due 11 Dec) My husband has two children from previous marriage aged 8 and 10. He too was shocked, and stunned for a few weeks. Now delighted as I'm sure your DH will be.

I'm having a completely trouble free pregnancy, and its made me feel younger if anything

Best of luck breaking the news!
