Mirena Coil Removal

Conundrum12345 · 05/01/2021 12:45

I got my mirena coil removed today after 2.5 years. My husband and I want to start trying.

Can anyone advise when my first period will be and how long it TTC?

Everyone is different but mine took nearly two years

I had mine removed at the end of my monthly bleed (had periods throughout) and came on 26 days later with a short period, then 28 day cycle after that.
Pregnant second active cycle of trying (third month after removal).
Good luck with TTC

Hi OP.

I had mine removed last September, had my first proper period in November and conceived in March this year (we used condoms for a couple of months just to give my body a few months of "normality").

Good luck with your journey Smile

Mine came less than a week after removal and I went straight into a regular 28-30 day cycle (for the most part-had a couple of random short cycles a few months in). We conceived on our 10th cycle trying.

Everyone is different. I had a withdrawal bleed / light period about a week after it came out and then a regular period 30 days later (my usual cycle pre mirena). I conceived the following month. My gynaecologist said it was technically possible to get pregnant just by removing it (if there is sperm hanging around from DTD and depending on when you're due to ovulate).

Thank you. My periods stopped when it was in so I'm unsure when I'm ovulating

I had a copper / non hormonal coil, removed mid July 2020 and pregnant by end of August! I don’t know how much of a difference hormonal vs non hormonal makes. I’d suggest using Clue or similar to track your fertile window etc and I used ovulation sticks as well which seemed to work for us. Good luck! Xx

I had mine removed mid-January. First cycle in mid-February. It took 8 months to conceive after that, but I had had three mirenas in a row since I was in early 20s, and I'm in mid/late 30s now, so that may have been down to length of time I had it or my age.

AnxiousAnnie86 · 07/01/2021 17:37

I had mine removed in august, first period a month later in September then pregnant the following month, which sadly ended in Mc exactly a year later fell pregnant again, 15 weeks now x

Suite88 · 07/01/2021 17:51

My periods continued whilst I had the mirena in and I'm pretty sure that I was still ovulating (I usually feel it each month).

I had my coil removed in August. My period came on schedule in September and I fell pregnant later that month. I'm now 20 weeks.

Had my mirena removed in September found out I was pregnant in November. I had light periods with the coil in although the length of my cycle changed a bit more.

Oneandabean · 07/01/2021 18:43

I had mine out September 19. Mine stopped with it in but came back within a month. Used condoms for a few months to allow cycles to regulate. Stopped using them in April and got pregnant first month. Now 37 weeks 😊

I had no periods while I had it. I had mine removed after 10 years (had it changed!) on 11th January 20, first period was end of January and pretty regular from there. My 12 week scan is now on 11th January 21 ☺️

Conundrum12345 · 08/01/2021 09:10

I had a period (or what I think could be?) Light brown discharge this morning. Should that be counted as my period or bleeding as a result of removing the coil?

@Conundrum12345 that's probably just breakthrough bleeding, I had that a couple days after removal then a proper period a month later x

WolfMother326 · 08/01/2021 09:49

@Conundrum12345 it's generally advised to wait one whole cycle to start trying because of the hormones that are still in your body. So maybe just wait 30 days if you are having irregular bleeding. Then you should be covered?

yarrow89 · 08/01/2021 10:21

I think it varies a lot depending on how your body processes the hormones, for example my friend took 6 months to get pregnant after her removal but I was only a month. Someone above suggested using Clue to track bleeding which is a great app, I used that.

Helenknowsbest · 08/01/2021 11:11

Got a period the month after removal. Took 9 months to conceive. X
