Hi all
Had a MW appointment and told baby is head up, she said they can turn before 36 wk scan but if not they will talk me through options - i have read online that they can move after 36 weeks, if they tell me about having a CS when will they do this around 37 weeks? Or tell me to wait and see if he moves? This is first pregnancy so all new to me, I am scared about labour enough the thought of breech causing extra complications is sending my anxiety through the roof
I also don't want the procedure where they try and manually turn the baby read to many horror stories!

Thank you x

My dd was breech around this gestation and turned in the end.

I was told by my midwife that it would result in an elective c-section if she didn't turn and I'd be scanned the morning of the scheduled c-section to see if she'd turned and if she had, the procedure wouldn't go ahead. This would be in the 39th week of pregnancy.

However, whilst my dd turned from breach, she then, (it was discovered during a long, extremely painful labour!) that she had turned again, only was transverse this time and I had an emergency c-section in the end!

My last dd was breech at this stage and did not turn. We didn't try the turning procedure either because of other complications with my pregnancy. I ended up giving birth naturally following a final scan when in labour which determined dd's head was just small enough for a natural breech birth. Up until this point I had been told I would be induced for a c-section as scans showed her head was too big.
This was not my first dc though and I think that makes a difference when determining a c-section.
I am happy to say though that everything went well and no complications during birth which were down to her being breech and I can't say it was any more painful than a non-breech birth.
Only thing different was they couldn't measure her straight after birth as they would not straighten her legs having been around her ears for so long, (they came normal eventually after a couple days) and she had to have a hip scan at around 6 weeks because of the breech position she had been in. All was fine.
Please try not to worry. I think most will turn between now and labour but if dc doesn't a c-section is likely the safest way for you both and that's the main thing.

my first was breech from 30 weeks. At 36 weeks she was still breech and confirmed by a scan so they offered me the ECV which I had done at 37 weeks. It wasn't successful so I had a planned c-section at 39w exactly. My hospital wouldn't do it earlier than this as there is every chance they can still turn before then. They scanned me on the day of my c-section and said if she had turned I would have been sent home (whether they would have followed through with that I don't know!)

Usually if they're breech at the 36 week scan, they will offer to try and turn the baby. But a csection won't be booked until 39 weeks either way

My breech baby started to turn during labour. So it can really be up to the last minute. I went in to labour before my planned section.

Planned sections are normally around 39w
