Hospital Reviews! Homerton or UCLH

I know there are a few reviews but none are particularly recent so hoping if you could share your experiences please?

I'm coming up on 8 weeks and have already had a couple of appointments at homerton as it's a possibly complicated pregnancy and I've liked my experience at Homerton EPAU however my mother in law (needed to know due to covid) is telling me to transfer to UCH... That I think is actually UCLH?? The reasoning is based on her experiences... Her youngest is almost 31 years old but then the rest of my husband's family have gotten stuck into the conversation and I'm wondering what to do. I've liked my experience at homerton so far and I've seen some recentish reviews on UCLH with some not so great, but not any recent hometom reviews so would appreciate hearing your experiences.

Thanks!

Probably not recent enough for you but I've had all of mine at Homerton - the youngest is 6. I've been really happy with them every time, and one of the dc was critically ill when first born with a rare virus, which would have killed them if not picked up quickly (and could very easily have been missed). He was in the Homerton NICU/SCBU for 7 weeks and the consultant without a doubt saved his life by recognising and testing for the rare illness.
I've had EMC, induced and a spontaneous birth - all brilliantly handled.

If you are having antenatal care now you probably have a feel for how they are now, and if you're happy with them why switch?

I would say that distance from your house if pretty important also. You may end up having to get there quickly, which I guess is less of an issue in currant circs (I'm assuming traffic is minimal in tier 4 and with schools closed - but who knows in 8 weeks time).

Good luck with whatever you decide. It is your and your DH decision at the end of the day, and no one else's business. Thanks

@Twelvedogsofchristmas thanks for letting me know. I think my mother in law just started to make me nervous as mine is not a straightforward pregnancy so appreciate you taking the time to tell me your experiences. Thanks!

UCLH is the best hospital to manage complicated pregnancy eepsecially if your baby might need extra care. It is quite busy. If having different midwives and generally bad admin would bother you then UCLH is not great, however if you are after hard core medical team, especially consultants you can't find any better in UK

Awful experience at Homerton EPU a few years ago

MrsSharpie · 02/01/2021 23:11

Yeah I just don't know because it hopefully will be fine but no matter how you slice it, I won't have a simple pregnancy.
Homerton EPU have been great and I've been there a lot of the last while due to multiple miscarriages and they are monitoring me so closely now as well, I feel in safe hands but not sure if that's a false sense of security... It's just a difficult decision to make I guess!

Had my first at UCLH in 2018 but moved during the pregnancy to Homerton’s catchement area. UCLH there was no continuity with midwives - I saw a different one each time. Birth was fine (labour ward, needed ventouse), post-natal ward was horrendous. They discharged us when baby (in retrospect) was clearly jaundiced (can see in the photos) and not really doing well. No help with breastfeeding which in retrospect was going really really badly (baby was starving and hypoglycaemic). Postnatal care was from Homerton’s midwives who were amazing. My baby had to be re-hospitalised within 12 hours of coming home and being in Homerton’s catchement area but having given birth at UCLH made it trickier to sort out.

TTC now for 2nd and will go for Homerton if I’m lucky enough to get pregnant.

@peanutbutterandfluff thanks for sharing your story, I really appreciate it. I think I've decided to stick with Homerton myself
