Favourite supermarket brands for baby products

Hi all! Which supermarkets do you prefer to use to buy baby products such as nappies, creams, toiletries (shampoo etc), etc? Or brands that you swear by? Would you recommend any other baby products from specific supermarkets, such as clothes or others?
For example I never shop in Aldi but have heard that their own brand Mamia nappies are great. Any other great finds or brands you stick to?

Pre-covid, while on mat leave, I used most of the supermarkets as I got bored trailing round the same one 😂 for me:
Aldi: definitely nappies and wipes, also got cloth nappies on offer during the baby events which are very good! Their own version of baby weaning foods are also good.
Lidl: never tried much from there as ours is next door to Aldi but again baby events are very good
Morrisons: Nothing specific but their clothing is fine especially for basics and/or on the sale. It come up a little small, I found, so ideal when you're just moving up a size bracket (whereas for example M&S clothes are gigantic)
Asda: Again clothing fine although personally I didn't like a lot of the character/patterns on stuff. Oh their baby bath bubbles are lovely and they do a menthol type one as well, seems to help a little with snotty noses! According to DD their Calpol is much nicer than the real stuff and it's half the price ☺️
Sainsbury's: Again nothing specific but their clothing is generally very nice and it's cut slightly bigger than the other supermarkets, I think.

Aldi nappies and wipes are great, definitely the best value around. I also rate their baby snacks when they're a bit older - rice cakes, cereal bars, fruit pouches etc. My daughter also loves their muslin cloths as they're softer than other brands.

OiYouGetOffMyCloud · 02/01/2021 08:36

I much prefer lidl nappies to Aldi, they’ve got stretchier tabs so I’m less likely to yank one off while trying to get a nappy on my octopus baby.

I love Asda for basics, totally agree with pp about not being keen on the character stuff.

Smoa9 · 02/01/2021 08:56

Tesco nappies and wipes. I always found aldi leaked and weren't compatible with my sons really sensitive skin. Definitely aldi for snacks and meals when they are old enough.

ThanksItHasPockets · 02/01/2021 10:53

Aldi for nappies and wipes. They periodically have Bambino Mio reusables in their specialbuy baby events too.

Randomly, Morrisons make the best nappy sacks. They are a bit thicker than the others and are easier to separate off and won’t split if a nappy is particularly heavy. Their baby clothes are also very good.

Sainsbury’s baby clothes are lovely but in my experience they come up small. They do their own version of ‘moc-ons’ moccasin socks which are absolutely brilliant if you use a baby carrier. They always have a particularly good range of rash vests and UV all-in-ones in the summer.

Not a supermarket own brand but I use Child’s Farm toiletries on my children and they are great, even on eczema. They are sold in the big supermarkets and are on offer from time to time. I avoid Johnson’s.

Helenknowsbest · 02/01/2021 11:19

Lidl nappies!

SpacePug · 02/01/2021 11:58

I really rate lidl and Tesco nappies.
Wipes I find are one and the same.
For baby clothes I love Sainsbury's. Asda are the cheapest but don't last as long as they seem to shrink/stretch easy

SpacePug · 02/01/2021 11:58

Oh and Asda baby vapour bath is great, smells mentholly.

Helenknowsbest · 02/01/2021 12:37

@SpacePug I agree about sainsburys baby clothes they're lovely

Bing765 · 02/01/2021 20:17

I love Tesco nappies. My advice is to get a pack from each store and see what works for you and your LO. When it comes to creams and skin products, baby doesn't need any when they're first born. Buy it when they're born after seeing what their skin is like. We thought we were playing it safe when we bought childs farm but my DD has really bad exczma and can only use her prescription cream. If you stock up, you could end up wasting a lot of money.

SoCrimeaRiver · 02/01/2021 20:28

Aldi for own brand nappies, Greek yoghurt pouches and own brand formula (we had to mix feed). Much cheaper than big brand equivalents and worked well for us. Also Asda own brand wipes (Aldi's packs seem to burst open at the seam and so dry out).

SoCrimeaRiver · 02/01/2021 20:31

Oh, and Boots own brand clothes. Not technically a supermarket but they have some lovely clothes, especially girls' baby gros which are pretty but not pink.

DwangelaForever · 02/01/2021 20:31

Tesco nappies!! They are amazing, used them for both my babies.

alphabetti · 02/01/2021 20:33

I like Sainsbury’s for baby products. Cheap but good quality. For clothes I like Sainsbury’s and also George at Asda.

lambo88 · 02/01/2021 20:39

We get our food shop from Asda so tend to buy all our baby things from there...when our little boy was born we used water wipes for the first year but moved onto the pampers sensitive ones as find there quite cheap and are on offer alof...we've also never tried any other nappies apart from pampers premium (the nappy pants are fab for when ur little one gets older) and find the active ones great...I no a lot of my friends use Aldi's nappies and say there fab but we just love the pampers ones...creams and shampoos we get from Asda aswel...we used mam bottles and dummies and can't fault them and got them from boots but they do have offers on...we don't tend to buy much clothing from supermarkets as I'm not keen on character clothing but M&S do lovely things and so does Sainsbury's but we find the sizes come up small xxx

ExpectingToFly · 02/01/2021 20:47

I used Pampers for my first... precious first baby Grinand then we had twins and loved the lidl nappies and now I love the tesco ones the best. They are brilliant!

SaraJean21 · 02/01/2021 20:51

Agree with PP, we found we preferred different supermarket nappies depending on the size!...so shop around and try different ones to see what you like before stocking up. Also give cloth a go - we moved over (nappies and wipes) when DS was 6 months and I've not looked back, wish I'd tried them sooner. Midwife also recommended coconut oil for newborns dry skin and it was perfect. Clothes wise also shop around and do try ebay and facebook selling groups for good quality second hand pieces - I've got some bargains that were as good as new or still with tags!

Toomuchtooyoung01 · 02/01/2021 20:55

Branded - Child's Farm
Supermarket own brand- Sainsburys baby wipes are great. Asda wipes smell horrible, even the unfragranced ones, and as such never use them.

RedMarauder · 02/01/2021 21:03

Nappies - different supermarket brands suit different babies or even the same baby at different sizes. Currently using Sainsburys nappies but Asda or Lidl pull ups on a 2 year old. Found Co-op and Boots own brand rubbish at any random size we tried.

Clothes - Sainsburys seem slightly bigger (longer and wider) cut and so do some Lidl clothes. But all the supermarkets are fine. It's just a case of what patterns/designs you can cope with as most are very sexist. Boots are actually the best for not stereotyping colours.

Wipes - I like Aldi wipes and other supermarkets are much of a muchness. Now dislike strongly Boots wipes.

Bath products - I go by the ingredients so use both branded products and Aldi.

Other stuff - all larger branches of the main supermarkets have baby products in like changing mats, bottles, drinking cups, cutlery, toys there as with Aldi and Lidl you have to wait for their special buys. Also beg, borrow and buy stuff second hand.

Buttercupcup · 02/01/2021 21:09

Nappies- boots and sainsburys own brand I have found work best for my little one and I like aldi nappy pants for the older one. (Try a pack from them all and see which you like/agree with baby’s bum!)
Wipes- aldi or sainsburys
Clothes- sainsburys, Morrison’s and Tesco I have found to be better quality than Asda. For baby grows I usually get next as I think they wash/tumble better and it’s worth paying the bit extra for.
Toiletries-just plain water for the newborn stage you don’t really need anything. Child’s farm and aveeno baby work for my 2 who had small patches of baby eczema. The Asda menthol baby bath is amazing for sniffles (even for the adults in the house!)
The supermarket baby events are great for stocking up-Tesco’s is on at the moment and Aldi’s is starting on the 14th jan apparently!
I tend to buy quite a lot in boots as there is large one near work if you shop there it’s worth joining their parenting club for extra advantage card points and freebies over the first year I got things like a Mam bottle and dummy, a child’s farm sample set, breast pads, a weaning book and baby toothbrush and tooth paste. As a previous poster said they also do really lovely clothes however they are currently changing over to mothercare as boots took part of mothercare over and I always thought MC clothes were good quality.

bleachblondemom · 02/01/2021 21:21

Aldi mamia nappies are very good but I also really like morrisons Nutmeg nappies, they’re a great fit on my newborn. Not keen on lidl or asda nappies at all.

ThanksItHasPockets · 02/01/2021 21:22

I have my fingers crossed that the Boots / Mothercare deal will also mean the return of Little Bird by Jools Oliver. I never normally go for celebrity-designed clothing but LB was a rare example of gorgeous, largely gender-neutral clothing in rainbow colours. In the meantime I have eBay alerts set up!

bloodywhitecat · 02/01/2021 21:25

Aldi nappies and wipes are nowhere near as good as they used to be, Tesco nappies are much better in my experience.

Heyha · 02/01/2021 21:26

Meant to say earlier that Morrisons' bath bubbles are crap 😂 and I also-controversial- don't like the smell or quality of any of the Johnsons toiletries.
PPs make good points about boots, I've had several 'free' shops from all the extra points you get from the parenting club and offers on the app. I ordered boring things like Ella's pouches from there as the offers are generally the same as the supermarket. I also bought a car seat from boots having checked it out in real life first, timed it well with a bonanza points deal and it only cost me about 60% of what it should have.

Oh also while I think, in my opinion Huggies wipes are awful, won't even buy them if they're on offer

snowone · 02/01/2021 22:14

Lidl nappies are my fave but it's a pain in the arse to get to from home. Aldi are also good. I really dislike Asda and Morrison's own brand nappies, they are awful.

I like Asda little angel wipes and Aldi wipes are good too.

DD loves the Asda little angels fruit pouches, they are great and a fraction of the price of Ellas kitchen. DD also loves Asda and Aldi's own brand yoghurt squeezy pouches.

Can't say I've really used anything own brand for anything else.

I seriously considered swapping DD from Aptamil to Aldi milk as I'd heard such good things but then decided against it as she was so settled on the aptamil and it seemed like a needless risk for the sake of a few £
