First Trimester - lower back pain after walking

Since 8+3 I’ve been experiencing a painful lower back on and off, but particularly after I go for a walk (normally fairly short, around 30 mins & I’ve worn different shoes to no avail). I’m now 11+0 and worry this could go on for a while and keen to see if anyone has experienced this and has tips to help! I don’t want to cut out the walks as I desperately need to incorporate some exercise into my routine as I wasn’t a big exerciser before pregnancy.

Google SI joint exercises and do the one where you lie on your back with one foot on the wall and the other ankle in front of it. Do it now before your bump gets in the way.

Once your bump is bigger switch to the pregnancy exercises. But do the one on your back for as long as you can now because that is the best.

If it gets much worse see your GP for a physio referral.

Hi OP, sorry to hear you're in pain. When I had my son, I had horrific Pelvic Girdle Pain from about three months into my pregnancy (I had pre-existing joint problems) and I was basically bed bound from then.

I was referred for hydrotherapy, which was amazing and helped loads. I was also given a special support band which essentially held my hips together and in the right place when I walked about.

As well as the exercises a PP has already recommended, I would definitely recommend asking your midwife to refer you to a pregnancy physiotherapist. They will be able to advise you more specifically to prevent things getting worse.
