.... will you be sending your older children to primary school next week?

I am currently 33+2, and have a bmi of 45. I'm really quite worried about how my body will cope with coronavirus on top of being heavily pregnant. But on the other hand, I don't want my son to miss out on school, which he loves. Help!

I'm 42, 34wks pregnant, obese and have gestational diabetes.

I will be sending my 3yr old to nursery next week as that is what is best for him and I don't want him to miss out on anything else.

I’m 31 weeks and high risk. My kids school is shut (London) but if it was open they would be going. They both love school and have missed out on so much this past year. (Plus I need a break Blush)

Thegirlhasnoname · 02/01/2021 07:07

I’m 29, 34 weeks pregnant and classed as having a high risk pregnancy (gestational diabetes and a recent history of blood clots).

My 2 year old DD will be off back to nursery when she is due in this week; I can’t afford to pay the full fees without her going, equally cannot afford to withdraw her from nursery as they have a long waiting list with no guarantee she’d be able to go back after maternity leave; she loves it and has been asking about her friends during the Christmas break.also, I have tried acting as normal during the break but noticed I am struggling a lot with walking/bending/moving in general and would prefer her to be able to be active as that is where she thrives

I don’t do shopping or any other risky things so feel like it is for the best for her to go. Tier 3 area and still don’t know of anybody who has had covid either - hopefully that continues!

I'm 33 weeks with twins - DD is 4 and in reception. I'll be sending her to school as normal - physically I would struggle to look after her and WFH - we have a date for a c section booked in so if cases continue to rise in our area I may pull her out 2 weeks before but DH still has to go to work so it's not like we can fully isolate

Pearsapiece · 02/01/2021 07:21

35 weeks here. Ds will be going to nursery as normal. It would be unfair in my current physical state to keep him home. I'm a cross that bridge when we get to it type person re covid

NotThatKindOfDoctor · 02/01/2021 07:59

I’m 37, and 30wks, not particularly high risk although I’ll be having my 4th c-section so higher risk at that stage.

I totally understand your concerns. I have 2 in the local village school which I’m not so nervous about as there have been zero positive cases there. My 12 year old however, has been off a few times because of positive cases at his school (my choice to keep him off). I’m nervous about him going back on Monday (we’re in France) because there are so many more kids there, and from a much wider geographical area (and who know what everyone has been doing over the holidays 😩).

I’m going to cross my fingers and send him in. Any hint of a kid/teacher testing positive though, and I’m pulling him straight out. I absolutely do not want any of us to get sick.

PopsicleHustler · 02/01/2021 08:36

Am.almost 38 weeks and absolutely will not be sending my darlings to schoolm this new strain is affecting kids big time.
I can home school and work from home regardless so just going to keep my children safe at home.

violetclouds · 02/01/2021 08:44

I'm booked in for a c section Monday at 39 weeks - dd will be going to nursery as it helps with the childcare situation as well as keeping my 2 year old in her routine

There is advice on the RCOG website on this. I’ve copied the relevant section below, but also here’s the link to the page with all the advice:

Q. What is the advice for pregnant women who are classed as extremely vulnerable (previously classed as shielding) on older children attending school/nursery/external childcare?
Some pregnant women with pre-existing severe medical illnesses have been classed as extremely vulnerable. If you are considered to be extremely vulnerable, you will have been advised of this by your medical team, in a letter informing you of the actions you need to take.

The government has published guidance on shielding and protecting people who are clinically extremely vulnerable. This guidance provides advice on measures to protect extremely clinically vulnerable people depending on the COVID alert level in your area. Even in this situation, if schools and childcare settings remain open, the UK government advice is that children and young people who live in a household where another member is shielding should attend school/nursery/external childcare if stringent social distancing, and hand hygiene, can be adhered to.

I’m 39 weeks tomorrow and by 2 year old goes to nursery 2 days a week. I’d really like her to go back this week as she loves it, it will keep some of the normal routine going for when the baby comes, and I need the rest! However I do feel conflicted as we’re right on the home stretch of the pregnancy and it’s not as if I need the childcare to wfh.

Wineandrun · 02/01/2021 10:14

I’m 37 weeks pregnant in a low risk area of Scotland (although we are all tier 4 anyway). If schools were open I’d be sending my two in (I’m exhausted and need a break from them after Christmas!) but in a way I suppose it’s a good thing they are closed. I’m not worried about getting it myself, I’m worried about my husband or children getting it and me having to have the baby by myself as they will have to isolate at home! Only just moved to the area so no family and very few friends who could help out.
