Falling - 13 weeks pregnant

Hi all - fell down the stairs tonight, just slipped on the last couple of steps and tried desperately to regain my balance which meant landing very heavily on my feet on the bottom step. From the impact I had a really bad jarring pain in my lower abdomen as if everything was compressing. And since then I have a weird feeling in my lower abdomen, like a low level pain/ cramp. Have tried to search for reassurance but everything is about people landing on my bum - I wish I'd landed like that instead.

My husband thinks I'm best to sleep and see how I am in the morning - am I being stupid doing this?

@hippohippohippo
You poor thing. But your uterus is so well protected. You might have pulled the muscles and ligaments supporting your uterus, but inside (as in your baby) is nicely packed tight with fluid.
I reckon you'll feel a lot better when you wake. Obviously if you get bleeding or pain worsens to call midwife, but I cannot imagine the few missed steps would harm your baby.
Think how many first children run into their mum's belly whilst she's pregnant again!

It sounds like you only slipped two steps, you'll have pulled a muscle most likely. Baby is so well protected in there, it's all designed to put up with a lot of bumping and jarring. Think of the things some women do when they don't even realise they're pregnant yet at this stage!

If you did try and go somewhere they could only listen for a heartbeat for reassurance, there is nothing that could be done to help (not that there will be anything wrong). Especially in current circs I'd stay away from hospital unless you're really concerned. You could call midwife in the morning if you're still worried.

Thanks cat709. I think if I hadn't a) felt the impact and pain, and b) heard stories of jolts from car accidents causing placental abruption, I wouldn't be worried. I will try to sleep, and see how I feel in the morning.

Really appreciate the reply - I didn't want to ignore something that I really should seek immediate advice on, but it's New Years Day night so I imagine it would be a struggle to be seen anyway unless the pain was really crippling.

Thanks - it was probably all of the bottom half of the steps, says my husband who helplessly watched. Quite a thud and quite a lot of initial pain, but appreciate that it sounds very minor - and hopefully is!

It sounds like it is probably just from your muscles!
If it gets any worse, just ring to talk to someone just incase!
