Hi Everyone!
We were just having a look at prams and omg there is sooooo many to choose from!
How do you ever choose one?Hmm
Has anyone recently chosen theirs or does anyone know of any good brands?
We looked at an icandy one which was amazing and one of my friends bought an “egg” one which is pretty cool, I feel like it’s a big decision cause they’re soooo expensive!
Let me know what you all think xx

There are numerous factors to consider such as the size of your car boot, where you will be walking mostly, if you want a certain size basket underneath etc.
I have an egg and love it. I dont feel like its too bulky or heavy and i like the 'suspension' on it :)

InvisibleToEveryone · 01/01/2021 22:11

Start with what you need it for.

On and off buses and trains, a massive heavy pram isn't going to work.

Off road, woods, beaches, umbrella type not great.

Up and down stairs, something smaller and lighter needed.

In and out of car boot, how heavy and easy to fold.

Then work out your storage space, car seat, frame, carrycot, seat unit, all need putting somewhere when not being used.

The best advice I could give (and that I wish I'd been given!) Was to get the smallest, lightest, narrowest one you can that has a one hand fold and is parent and world facing. I got a massive travel system and broke down in tears in M&S as I couldn't get through the checkouts! Binned it at 4 months and got a bugaboo bee, which we've only just stopped using after 2 years. I also loved the look of the babyzen yoyo.

The only downside to those two is that they are not great "off road"

InvisibleToEveryone · 01/01/2021 22:12

Oh and colours...no bearing on usefulness of the item!

PlanBea · 01/01/2021 22:24

We had a private shopping appointment in John Lewis and in Mamas and Papas (John Lewis was excellent, mamas and papas was a bit pushy) and went through prams and car seats. We found it really useful, got a feel for what worked for us and for me (I have fibromyalgia, so have other factors I needed to consider). We went back to JL the next day when we'd narrowed it down to two and the shop assistants were really helpful again.

There isn't an objectively "best" pram but they can help you find the best one for you! We're going for silver cross pioneer, just need to pick a colour now haha

Out of all the prams I've had over the years. My last one was a baby jogger city mini gt, it ticked all the boxes and lasted till dd was about 4. It was so easy to fold. Great off road, had loads of storage. It was also so easy to push with just one hand.

Alexandrababy1 · 02/01/2021 00:43

Thanks for the advice everyone, I think I’m going to try a few out hopefully when we can and we’re no longer in tier 4 Sad xx

When do you think you should get your pram?
The main thing I would want from it is one that does everything I.e car seat can be clipped in for short journeys but also comfy for newborns laid down...not sure if most prams do all this?! (First time mum can you tell!)

I have the egg, with carry cot and car seat adapters so a few pints now were 6 months in:

It’s very heavy, so getting it up a flight of stairs would be murder, only if you live in a house. Car boot is alright, I just swing it in.

Great off-road and strong. I actually don’t think I could break it which is super important for longevity.

It’s massive when ‘folded’ as it is in two parts. We have two big boots though and leave it set up inside. BMW 118D and Seat Ateca

Carry cot was great for downstairs naps, saved on a Moses basket, carried him around house in it with handle and never woke up. Also had a few over nights in it fine.

Plastic covers are annoying and baby doesn’t really like them, that maybe preference but it seems they’re for style rather than practicality.

It’s narrow and can fit through those pesky cars parked on the pavement gaps just fine.

I would again if I had the money.

Not if weight and size are a problem though.

MindyStClaire · 02/01/2021 08:42

I have an Uppababy Vista that I adore, DD1 is 2.5 and it was used everyday in lockdown for her and now every day she's at nursery for DD2 (we have a double for when she's home). It's very well built, it gets all sorts of abuse but we've had no problems with it. The best thing about it is the massive shopping basket.

I wouldn't want it though if I was getting on and off buses, we walk everywhere with the odd trip in the car.

Keep an eye out to see what parents who go the places you're likely to be going use. And see which models people are still using with toddlers instead of ditching for a lighter weight stroller.

This sounds perfect! Is it this one :

NC4THISS · 02/01/2021 10:04

@ame88 yes that’s the one.

They’re quite popular, I see lots in the forest when we’re on walks, we do about 5k a day on average on forest fire road type terrain.

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 02/01/2021 10:13

Consider getting a second hand one as well - that way it's much cheaper and not too much of a problem if you decide you want something different later on. I have a Mamas & Papas Occaro which was recommended by a friend, only £150 bought from someone on fb. Its been great, easy to put up and down, nice to push & steer although it's quite big. And we have enough money left to buy a jogging buggy when she's a bit older so dh can take her running.

Shelby30 · 02/01/2021 10:22

I had seen one online venicci that I liked the look of. Had a video of it and showed all the features it looked brilliant.

We went to 2 different pram shops and the one I liked was by far the nicest. I was about 6 months gone they were trying to rush me in to ordering it. We're all oh I really need to order in the next few weeks to have it in time.

I came home and ordered it online for cheaper and it came within a few days lol.

Oneandabean · 02/01/2021 10:22

I’d picked mine before I was even pregnant purely because it looked amazing. Because of lockdown I never got to test it but it’s absolutely perfect. I got the cosatto giggle quad in hare wood

Alexandrababy1 · 02/01/2021 15:49

Thanks for all the tips everyone! It’s really helpful cause I haven’t been able to go and see any in person so it really helps to hear everyone’s opinions xxx

You do need to allow 6-8 weeks (more at the minute) for delivery if you order through a shop. Which is by far the easiest option if you want to be able to take it back and ask about any defects etc. A lot of stores will also lend you a buggy if yours needs to go in for repair which is worth knowing!

Buying online will save you a few ££ and is faster but if you really want to save money, second hand is key!

boymum88 · 02/01/2021 16:08

If you can wait and go into a shop and look and feel all the different ones. Like others have said will depend on what you will use it for. We got the I candy peach when ds1 was born over 2 1/2 yrs ago still looks brand new, I love it, we also knew we would want another child, and the I candy peach can be turned into a double very easily. We also waited until it was on sale

Changechangychange · 02/01/2021 16:48

We have the Babyjogger City Mini and it is great - bit big, but super-easy to fold and carry up and down steps. We don’t have a car so fitting in the boot wasn’t a major concern, but it has fit in most of our rental cars with the wheels off. Still fits DS easily at 4, though we don’t use it much these days.

We borrowed a Yoyo on holiday when DS was 5 months, and while it was extremely light and easy to carry, it felt incredibly flimsy, and just did not work over gravel, cobbles, grass, or any other kind of uneven ground. Wheels were too small. We had to carry it, and DS, over any obstructions, and we weren’t able to take DS into the park because it had gravel paths. If you live somewhere fully tarmacked though, or drive most of the time, it is a good choice.

Alexandrababy1 · 02/01/2021 17:40

Amazing! Thanks everyone.
@boymum88 we were looking at the icandy peach as we wanted something which was easy to put in the car etc and it looks soooo comfy and you can change from the cot to the seat etc, can’t wait to be able to actually go into shops and try them out! Such an exciting time xxx

We have just bought a baby elegance envy pram from smyths and its a travel system it comes with car seat adaptors so you can put the car seat on the chasis it also came with a free raincover. we paid £418 for the pram with free car seat and then paid for the isofix seperate, its not heavy folds down easily it also has an extendable handle and fairly big basket, the handle was a must for us as my OH is 6ft 3 and in my opinion looks way more expensive than it actually was, it was the first pram i seen and nothing else came close to how much i liked that one. You will know when you find the pram that is right for you

PurpleBettina · 02/01/2021 18:11

We looked at the iCandy peach and the uppababy vista, but ended up with the Nuna Triv - it was much lighter and easier to collapse. I want to be able to take it on public transport and around the city on my own, so being light enough to carry single handed and easy to fold was a priority. So far we love it!
