Looking for some recommendations of sleeping bags for a newborn.
Never used them before with my sons but would like to this time as baby will be born in feb.
Also I don't understand the togs 😂

Grobag ones are good, if pricey. John Lewis ones are good too. I put DS in a vest, sleepsuit, sleeping bag and swaddled with a blanket. Found layers better than having a thick sleeping bag, and babies run hot anyway.

There is a minimum weight guide for sleeping bags so you might need to use an alternative for a few weeks until they are big enough for it

I'm partial to the m and s ones, but from about 3 months.

There is a great info graphic that tells you what tog based on room temp.

A groswaddle might be ok from newborn

KHR1 · 31/12/2020 21:30

We like the asda ones, reasonable price and nice designs too. Sleeping bags usually come with a guide which tells you what tog to use depending on the temperature of the room. There are lots of generic temperature guides online which I found handy too!

You should take a look at this safety test review on lots of them, I was so surprised some were safer than others - helped us choose which to buy!

I have bought love to swaddle swaddle up bags for ds and wish that I'd had them for DD.
Grobags are good for later on and are often reduced in TK Maxx

SitDownLars · 31/12/2020 21:46

We used grosnugs to begin with which are the newborn version of grobags, sort of a cross between a swaddle and a sleeping bag. There is a chart on the website guiding you which tog to use and what clothes to pair it with, the lower togs are more versatile as you can add an extra vest. Agree with pp about being careful which ones you buy as some don't pass safery tests, saw in tkmaxx today that lots have been recalled. Friends liked the love to dream swaddle bags.

Here is the Which report on safety standards www.which.co.uk/news/2020/09/which-safety-tests-uncover-dangerous-baby-sleeping-bags/

Grobags are amazing

We used a Tommee Tippee one with my son from 2 weeks old. Her is now 6 weeks and is sleeping so much better in it than he was in a blanket. Mine are 2.5 tog and age 0-4 months and have a swaddle function that we have never actually used

firstimemamma · 31/12/2020 22:31

We used blankets when ds was a little baby. He's 2 and in sleeping bags now because he's so wriggly but when he was little blankets did the job just fine and you'll probably be given loads as gifts so you'll save loads of money too. Smile

DennisTMenace · 31/12/2020 23:14

All the supermarkets sell them. Gro are expensive, but often find cheaper second hand on facebook marketplace etc. Ds1 didn't like them until he moved to the cot, so had tiny blankets instead.

Nia18 · 01/01/2021 14:30

I've used all sorts of brands from supermarket to grobags and in my opinion there aren't many big differences between them.

For my daughter I use a 2.5 tog in winter and depending on how warm our summers are I get a 1 tog. Then I just put more layers underneath if its particularly cold or take them off if its hot etc.

Theyre really not meant to be used with another blanket or swaddle though so I wouldn't do what some have suggested.
