John and Lizzie's Consultants

I gave birth at John and Lizzie's a few years ago and have always thought that's where I'd have my 2nd baby, but have just found out that my consultant Dr. Donald Gibb will no longer be delivering there after Jan 05. Does anyone know the story? I had heard the hospital was upset with an interview he gave to a newspaper.

Any recommendations for other J&L consultants?

Not sure - but Mr. Jo Aquilina is very lovely - he looked after me for ds both with my horrible pregnancy complications at teh Royal London and my wonderful c-section at J&L. Alternatively, if you don't have any complications, why not go for a midwife led birth?

What did you like about Mr. Aquilino? I need to decide if I want to change hospitals or consultants as I liked Donald Gibb very much and he gave excellent care as well as the hospital.

Surely you could call Mr Gibb's secretary and see him somewhere else?

hi there
i'm with yinka akinfenwa. he seemed really nice only seen him once but he came recommended. but i'm having midwife led care so i'm not too concerned.
my sister had 2 kids under yehudi gordon and loved him but he doesn't take many on. you have to get in early.
don't get too caught up with finding the perfect one. i think they are probably all good there and share a strong philosophy. i'm really enjoying my exp so far. when are you due?

velcrobott · 25/10/2004 22:02

That's interesting Sweeney, I know quite a few people who don't like Yehurdi. Glad she liked him. That's what matters.

Why Mr Aquilina.
I had quite a rare condition (obstetric cholestasis) which many registrars and SHO's (and some consultants) do not know an awful lot about - at least not as much as me, because after suffering with it in my first pregancy I made sure I had read EVERYTHING about it. Jo did knwo more than me, but completely respected my knowledge - gave me information and allowed me to make my own decisions. I am v. analytical and need to knwo the details, so he made sure I knew the background reasons for every drug, the info got from every scan etc.
He's a brilliant scanner - I had to have bi-weekly dopplers and scans of ds's aortal blood flow, and he got the right pictures in about 1/10th of the time of the head of scanning at RLH. (And he made sure I could see ds's face each time and say hello)
My wonderful ante-natal midwife at the RLH mfau told me he was the best. And as she was wonderful I decided to trust her judgement.
And lastly, he's quite dishy, in an older man kind of way (though he's not that old)

Thanks for the recommendations. I know people that have had Yehudi and some don't like his bedside manner. But I love his book. I will look into Mr. Aquilina.

I can stay with Mr. Gibb -- but that would mean delivering at The Portland, and I'm not sure it it's my style. I had a c-section last time, but was hoping for a water birth, and like J&L's reputation for that as well as the care and philosophy of the hospital. My dh and I have decided not to go mid-wife lead as there is a strong possiblity I may need another c-section.

If you may have to have another c-section then definately Mr A. He gave me the neatest possible scar! He was also really good during the op- kept me informed of what he was doing etc, because I really wanted to feel in some sort of control.
But at the same time he's not dead set on c-sections. He suggested at one point that I could have an induced water-birth (had to deliver by 38 weeks) if I wanted to deliver naturally.
