Can a baby "kick too much"

I'm 33 weeks pregnant & I believe my baby had settled into a kicking pattern
Extremely active when I lie down in bed ( typically as I'm drifting off to sleep ) , a kick here & there during the night often in the bladder 😂 & when I wake up , I'll get a few kicks whilst I get ready for work

I've noticed the last 3 days or so , baby has really increased in movement.
Like it's as if he's having a party in there !
I've never seen my belly move with movement whilst standing ( always when I'm lying down relaxing ) but yesterday my co-workers could see him moving whilst i was standing. I took it as sign of just pregnancy progressing maybe ?

Today I'm day off so I'm tidying up etc & it feels as if he can't get comfortable in there so is "thrashing" around. I'm feeling movement all over my stomach but more on the sides near my hips

I know if there's reduced movement you need to ring the midwives but what about increased movement ?

mine was particularly active after eating jalapenos i guess she didn't like spicy food lol.I found certain foods got her really excited ,its just the way of things .After 6 months they can hear and taste a little of what your eating sugar also gives them the need for speed

How funny, I'm 33 weeks today and have been wondering the same thing for a couple of weeks. I'm starting to worry he's got adhd 😂 There isn't an hour in the day where he doesn't move. I did read at this point babies are asleep 90-95% of the time but that can't possibly be true!

bumpyknuckles · 30/12/2020 15:08

The NHS advice is to contact your midwife if you notice any change in movement, including an increase.

RandomMess · 30/12/2020 15:10

What bumpy says. Please get checked out.

AnaisNun · 30/12/2020 15:14

Yes, they can. Any change in movement should be checked with midwife.

If things feel frantic in there, it’s a matter of urgency that you get checked.

Hotpinkangel19 · 30/12/2020 16:08

Definitely get checked, it's a change in pattern.

My baby was always a big mover and one time when I was in hosp being monitored (for something else, not related to movements) baby would not stop moving for at least an hour. I told the midwives how this wasn't normal and not a single one seemed concerned. I was hooked up to the heart rate monitor for baby though so maybe they could see baby's heart rate was doing what it should when active and that's why they weren't concerned. You definitely did the right thing. Hope all is okay OP

Hope it went well at the hospital OP.

My baby was like this, very hyper and kicking constantly sometimes leaving me breathless (especially after week 30). Previous two DC were never this active before birth. He is currently in my arms sleeping :) it's rarely anything to worry about but if it's a sudden increase then always best to get checked.

Ksi91 · 31/12/2020 11:30

Everything went well at the hospital
They said it could be because I wasn't at work so I noticed it more , or could be because I had a little bit more sugar yesterday than I normally do ( dove head first into a tub of heroes 😂 )

Everything was fine tho.

Thanks for the advice ladies xxxx

My DS used to wriggle and kick like mad most of the time, he got into routines too. I had hyperemesis and whenever i was in hospital waiting for the cannula i used to get really anxious as it took them 13 attempts to get one in on the first admission, and he used to kick around like mad! It was like he could sense my anxiety / mood change.
He is now nearly 7 months old and NEVER stops moving his legs. Literally everyone comments on how hes always moving! Ive told him hes going to put his legs to use and become a footballer and buy mummy & daddy a nice big house and let us retire early Grin
