Hi, ill be 37 weeks on Friday and am set on having a home birth, I've just been notified the the Iron levels in my blood are low and the platelets in my blood too so as things stand I can't have a home birth, has anyone else had this problem and what happened ?

Hi OP

Please don't take the risk of a home birth. I had low platelets from about 28 weeks which got gradually worse. At 34 weeks I had a placental abruption of one of my twins, and whilst the low platelets did not cause the abruption, it absolutely contributed to the massive blood loss I suffered, and my DH almost lost all three of us. Luckily I happened to have been kept in hospital that night because they were worried about my latest bloods, otherwise I would not be here to tell the tale. Low platelets don't mean that something will go wrong at all, please don't think that's what I'm saying, but if something does happen you need to be in hospital.

I take spatone. Its like liquid form of iron and vit C, I pour it into my apple juice. I was borderline at my booking in appointment so have a feeling Im low by now as Im constantly tired but these spatone supplements have helped

I have low iron and platelets, I am 37+5 and will be having a labour ward birth. You need to have platelets over 100 to go to the birth centre but mine have never been above 72 this pregnancy, it can also affect the pain relief you can have but I’m sure your obstetrician will discuss this with you. It’s definitely safer to be in hospital.

I have this with my pregnancies.
I had a massive haemorrhage with my first and with the subsequent 2 I had to give birth at the specialist women's hospital where they induced me and had platelets on standby.
You also aren't allowed any pain relief if your platelets are under I think 100.
Mine drop to single figures when pregnant.
