Spotting at 6 weeks

Hi, I'm a new poster but a long time lurker. I'm 6 weeks pregnant and noticed some spotting yesterday- mainly brownish coloured and it's continued today. I know it could be many things but I can't stop worrying (this is my first pregnancy so it is all very new to me). Is it worth getting a scan to find out what is going on or better to wait a couple of weeks? Thanks

If it’s just a small amount of brownish coloured spotting it’s probably fine but I would keep an eye on it. I had that at 8 weeks with my first and I now have a healthy 3 year old. With my second pregnancy I had a small amount of red blood spotting which later that day got very heavy later that day and I lost that pregnancy. Brown and a small amount should be fine just keep an eye on it and phone your midwife if worried.

Please call your GP or midwife and get booked in for a scan. It's very common and could be absolutely fine but I could also be the start of a miscarriage. Chances are low of course but it's better to be safe than sorry. I ignored mine and although there's nothing that can be done to stop a miscarriage at this point, I wish I'd stopped being in denial and booked in for a scan sooner

Thanks for your replies- I spoke to the early pregnancy unit yesterday and they said to monitor it but I'll contact them again tomorrow. I'm just feeling a bit isolated so I'll try and distract myself and stop checking every 30 mins.

@Redfoxinthesnow I am five weeks and just experienced brown, watery spotting two days ago and was also very worried. It stopped after a daddy and never progressed to full on bleeding, and pregnancy tests have remained strong, so I think it was just spotting. I think early spotting is more common than the official pregnancy guides lead you to believe and does not always lead to a miscarriage. Hope that helps and hope yours stops soon.

@highfalutinlootin thanks for sharing your story, it's reassuring to hear that others have experienced the same and been ok. Best of luck for the rest of your pregnancy!
