Hi guys,

How long was labour for your first pregnancy?

When did your contractions start?

OP posts:
Itmaybeus · 28/12/2020 14:17

18 Hours - spontaneous labour, waters broke 12 hours before birth which was when it really intensified.

inappropriateraspberry · 28/12/2020 14:18

I was induced, but labour was around 2hrs! Second child born on the loo - they don't seem to want to hang about 😆

Chasingsquirrels · 28/12/2020 14:21

2 hours

10pm - waters went.
10.30pm - contractions started.
0.23am - dc born

CovidCakeConundrum · 28/12/2020 14:22

24 hours labouring at home to just 2cm then only 3 hours until baby was pushed out. Wasn't that bad.

Vicky1989x · 28/12/2020 14:23

I was induced but my waters broke at 5:30am, they started the drip at 11am, baby was born at 5:32pm!

Lightsontbut · 28/12/2020 14:25

First contraction at half mid-night. Probably established labour by about 2 am and baby was born at 8 am. Second was much quicker (1 hr 45 mins from first twinge to birth).

Tricerapops · 28/12/2020 14:43

I was induced on the drip at 35 weeks and it was about 3.5 hours from the drip going in to baby bring born.

GarlicMushroom · 28/12/2020 14:45

1 hour 49 minutes🥰
3cm at 2am and ds born 3.49 via normal birth at 38+1. My waters broke 2 days before but I had no contractions up until that point

Pleaseaddcaffine · 28/12/2020 14:50

4 hours start to finish, which was less than ideal and led to issues as too fast. But my female family history is extremely quick labour's.
If I have a second I probably won't make it to hospital!

Namechange600 · 28/12/2020 14:51

8 hours. 6cm dilated on arrival to hospital which was about 2 hours after contractions started. Baby born 6 hours later. Two weeks early and on the small side- 5lb15oz!

Odile13 · 28/12/2020 15:00

I started contractions on a Monday. Very on and off. Intensified on Tuesday then backed right off again. Eventually had strong contractions Thursday night, waters broke Friday morning, went into hospital at lunchtime and baby born less than 5 hours later.

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 28/12/2020 15:05

3hours. I was induced. She was born after just 10 minutes of pushing at 5.55pm.

NickMarlow · 28/12/2020 15:14

Contractions started Tuesday evening. Went into hospital 11pm Wednesday. Section due to failure to progress 8am Friday.

Bettina500 · 28/12/2020 15:15

Just over 6 hours, but it was a very tense drip induction and my waters had already broken. I was 3cm dilated before they started me off and I had been twinging, passing bits of show and uncomfortable for a few weeks so I think I had been in slow labour for a while.

physicskate · 28/12/2020 15:16

About 86 hours. The first day or so was like painful braxton hicks. Didn't sleep through them and though baby was imminent (hahahahah).

Couldn't take it by 70ish hours in. I think it was mostly the not sleeping. Went into hospital and was 2cm. A couple hours later they augmented my labour (I got an epidural that ended up working on one side only just before). Got to fully dilated after about 4-5 hours.

Baby born with forceps after a couple of hours of not very effective pushing. Had moderate pph due to the forceps and episiotomy trauma.

Really the first 48 hours were early/podromal labour. But I was so excited and ready to meet baby that I didn't try to rest enough.

Got no sleep in hospital that night either (midwife woke me up when I'd slept maybe 20 mins saying 'you baby is screaming.' I apologised and asked her to hand me my baby as I'd had severe pgp and arrrived in hospital on crutches, plus the forceps with episiotomy and wearing off epidural meant I wasn't really mobile enough to get baby from her cot. The lack of support after my moderate pph was woeful. Hb was down to 73... so just missed the 70 cutoff for transfusion.

They wanted me to spend a second night - not on your life!! I had my HD's support at home.

This was all pre-covid btw.

LutherRalph1 · 28/12/2020 15:17

Less than 3 hours, but all forced- waters broken, drip etc
Was induced 4 days earlier to no avail

AriesTheRam · 28/12/2020 15:25

Princessiest · 28/12/2020 15:42

My three labours all started around 5-6pm
First 24h (back labour then ventouse), second 6h third 3.5h

PatchworkElmer · 28/12/2020 15:43

10 hours and 47 minutes! Was induced at 9pm, and DS was born at 7:47 the next morning. Was only in active labour for 4 hours.

Avvii · 28/12/2020 15:51

32 hours from first contraction to baby being born. Started off slowly at 8am and really ramped up in the evening of that day. Went to hospital at 1am and they didn’t think I was in active labour so kept me waiting in triage until 5am. I had pre-eclampsia and the midwife agreed to check me (with a lot of convincing on my part) before moving me to the ward to find I was actually 7cm dilated! If only they’d checked when I first arrived I could have moved to delivery rather than labouring in the waiting room. Unfortunately my contractions slowed right down at this point (I blame not being allowed to move about and the bright lights) and so I ended up with the drip and a ventouse at 4pm the day after contractions starting. Biggest lesson is to make a fuss from the very beginning if they don’t believe you’re in active labour but you think you are. I really wish I had!

AnonymousAuroch · 28/12/2020 15:58

Just under 7 hours. Contractions started at 2:30am and she was born at 9:17am. She would have been born even earlier if we had gone to the hospital sooner, but I thought labor was supposed to take much longer so didn't leave the house until I was bleeding. The nurses didn't even believe I was in labor when I walked in, but she was born 20 minutes later!

yahyahs22 · 28/12/2020 16:08

Waters broke just after midnight, after being induced and 20 minutes of pushing, he arrived just before 5:30pm

Strokethefurrywall · 28/12/2020 16:31

4 1/2 hours or so. Waters and first contraction around 11.45am, baby born 4pm.

Meredithgrey1 · 28/12/2020 16:36

Pretty much bang on 24 hours (give or take 5 mins) from first contraction to birth.
The first 5ish hours were very mild though and I wasn’t totally sure it had started because I was having very mild pains lasting about 30 seconds, every 30 seconds or so, which wasn’t what I was expecting at all! They then got more painful and further apart, before getting closer again.

firstimemamma · 28/12/2020 16:39

Started at 5:30am naturally at 41 weeks. Spent most of my time at home, arrived at hospital late afternoon. Waters broke at 9pm and ds born shortly after at just before 10pm. No issues and pushing only lasted just under half an hour. I was 28 and ds was nearly 9 pounds. A lovely water birth. Needed stitches but all was ok. Good luck op!

My story shows that waters breaking doesn't always happen near the beginning!!!
