Oh you poor thing! I have a retroverted uterus and I had three kidney infections one after another from about weeks 10 to 14. Urine was retained and this was why the infections. I didn’t need a catheter though and I really feel for you. What I do know is that things have improved in that score a lot in recent weeks. I am now nearly 20 weeks and once the uterus popped forward out of the pelvis then the pressure upon the bladder and associated tubes was relieved considerably and the problem went away. I still have a minor issue with it but take cranberry tablets daily. The dr advised against cranberry juice whilst pregnant due to the sugar content but the tablets have helped a lot.

Hopefully someone will come along with specific info regarding the catheter. I hope things improve soon OP. Flowers

I had this with my third pregnancy. From about 10 weeks my urine flow had been really slow and then stopped completely and I needed a catheter. From memory this was at approx 14 weeks. I’d been told to go straight to hospital if it got so bad that I couldn’t pass any urine. After my tummy got big enough to pop out it all went back to normal.

Yes the exact same thing happened to me when I had my DS. I had a catheter in for two days and was really worried it would happen again when they removed it but luckily it didn't.

I felt it happening again with my current pregnancy but luckily managed to avoid a complete blockage again. I had to get on all fours and rock back and forth for a few minutes every time I needed the loo. After about 10 days it passed and went back to normal again. I recommend trying that if you do have issues after they take it out.

I also had this at around 14 weeks, they put the catheter in and then took it out and let me out when I was able to pee a couple of hours later, it then happened to me again a a week later. Went back to A&E and they put a catheter in again and told me I had to keep it in until they could get me an appointment with the twok clinic, but appointment came through and wasn't for another three weeks. I contacted my midwife crying and she immediately referred me to an obstetrics consultant who managed to get me in that week. He took the catheter out and said that it usually happens when the uterus is trapped in the pelvis and keeps growing but then squashes your bladder, he did an internal to check it had now flipped out which is what the catheter helps it to do. Thankfully it didn't happen again, I also have a retroverted uterus.

Thank you all so much for your messages very reassuring although I was back in the hospital all day yesterday the took my catheter out and I was able to pass urine but they wasn’t happy with the amount and said the uterus is stuck in the pelvis and preceded to put the catheter in and out 3 times them tried to internally manually move the uterus out I was in a lot of pain to say the least they let me home around 10pm with with nothing to see how I got on currently just trickling not sure if that’s enough or whether to go back uncertainty is the worst!!

Sounds horrible OP but glad you are home. Have you tried going on all fours and rocking to see if you can release it a bit so there’s more than a trickle of urine if you feel you need to go?

TenThousandSpoons0 · 30/12/2020 20:38

Sounds difficult OP! Lots of good info above, I’d suggest if you can only pass a trickle you should head back in. You may need to have a catheter in for a week or two until the uterus pops up out of the pelvis a bit more and takes the pressure off your bladder. I don’t think they should do any more in and out catheters for you just now - you and your bladder need a rest it sounds like! But - not uncommon, doesn’t mean any problems long term unless the retention leads to huge volumes stretching your bladder - hence the reason for the catheter short term. Good luck!

LittleTiger007 · 30/12/2020 21:24

Good luck OP I hope things improve for you. I really hope you don’t have to go through that pain again.

I had the same thing but never got to catheter stage.

I spent a lot of time on all fours rocking side to side, backwards forwards and in circular motions, any kinda basic yoga (ish) moves and stretches I could think of - It helped but I didn’t have it as bad as you.

It sorted itself out as the baby grew. I’m so sorry, it’s a horrendous feeling.

SweatpantsTime · 04/01/2021 14:39

Same thing here. 17 weeks and had to rush to the A&E for an emergency catheter. Not getting along very well with the catheter due to bladder spasms (when it leaks a lot). Spent 2 days in and out the A&E, changed catheter 3 times, and (knock on wood) it’s now a bit better, just having to deal with the bladder spasms. I’ll have to keep the catheter for a week before they see what happens and will consider either continue with the catheter or putting a “shelf” to keep the uterus above the bladder. It’s horrible and uncomfortable and I’m pretty much stuck home at the sofa.

I’m so so sorry you are in this situation. I’m sending you my love and good thoughts. I have nothing really to add as I don’t know a whole lot about this.
The only thing I ever read is that at 24 weeks the baby may survive, so hang on, do what the doctors tell you to do and keep being brave.

Mumof2tobe2021 · 22/02/2021 20:49
