What do you think made you go into labour?

I know nobody will know exactly but when I was pregnant with my first I walked everywhere. I didn’t drive so would walk for around 3 hours a day some days, especially near the end of my pregnancy. I went into labour at 36 weeks and I always wonder if that was why. Of course there are probably many other factors!

Anyway with my second I could drive at that point so I didn’t walk anywhere near as enough. My job required lots of sitting down and due to high blood pressure and swelling I barely went out near the end. I was induced at 39 weeks.

I know every pregnancy is different and you would never know for certain, but is there anything you think made you go into labour?

I’m pregnant with my third and I’d like to go into labour naturally but we’ll see!

I've always gone into labour naturally ( 37+3, 38+6 and 38+6) . My third was a vbac and they started talking about doing sweeps from 39 weeks which I wanted to avoid. So I bounced a lot on my ball and exercised again my cross trainer (I had stopped at around 36 weeks) and labour started within a few days. Could be a coincidence though. With number 1 I was quite lazy and didn't do much exercise. With number 2, I was swimming everyday the last couple of months to relieve water retention.

I watched old sitcoms while expressing colostrum, as nipple twiddling is well supported by the Cochrane review for bringing on labour!

We went out for a curry lunch and then I ate some fresh pineapple. I didn't realise how far into labour I was (first DC) as I was having regular cramps but not excruciating ones and went for a walk around the block. Ended up clinging to the roof rack of a car not far from home when pain ramped up. Straight into hospital and was 8cm dilated on arrival!
With DC2 I'd been gifted a massage and the masseur did a deep tissue one which I am sure set off labour. She was born three weeks early although labour was stop/start over five days and I ended up having a CS.

I dont know if this started it as I was 40 + 1 when I had ds but I was so desperate to get things started I had red hot chilli sauce with chips, ended up drinking (!!) the sauce...things kicked off big time, from the point of me drinking the sauce to do bring born was 3.5 hours (1st labour) he was v nearly born outside the front door of a & e

Sex at 3pm, contractions started at 7pm, a week early!

No idea it was so random. DS1 was born at 37 weeks completely unexpectedly. I had had no warning signs, no show etc. Then one night I got up from the sofa to go to the loo and felt a pop. It was my waters going with a fish, then contractions started an hour later and he was born lunchtime the next day.

DS2, I had been having ever increasingly strong braxton hicks for weeks, was convinced I was going to be early again, but ended up having 2 sweeps and an induction.

I don’t think I did anything differently during the pregnancies. If anything I was more active with ds2 as I had ds1 to run around after.
