The general advice seems to be that you need cheap, lightweight, button front nighties as it will be hot and hopefully I'll be bf-ing. So where the flip do I find such an item without paying £20 a pop??!! Anyone found anything useful anywhere?

Ta!

Primark. About £4. They're actually ok quality too - I still use the one I gave birth in a year on.

Peacocks

choufleur · 24/10/2007 19:15

when are you due? can you wait for the jan sales?

BellaBear · 24/10/2007 19:16

I've got a pack of two from blooming marvellous. Not as cheap as Primark though!

peachygirl · 24/10/2007 19:18

I got mine in Matalan

I was in for a few days and I wore Pjs in the day and a nightie at night. It felt a bit more like getting dressed.

ceebeegeebies · 24/10/2007 19:21

Ditto Matalan - got mine (front-buttoned cotton ones) for about £4 or £5.

Jojay · 24/10/2007 19:23

Matalan. About £6 each IIRC

Caz10 · 24/10/2007 21:09

Thank you thank you! We don't get Peacocks up here in the wilderness but our Matalan and Primark are near to each other...I feel a shopping spree coming on!

Didn't bother wearing the nightie I bought, just V neck PJ's and either went under or over the neckline.

PrettyCandles · 26/10/2007 07:00

Button fronts are not good! You end up exposing yourself to the world while feeding. PJs with loose T-shirt style tops far more practical.

MrsBadger · 26/10/2007 08:07

button fronts were fab for me - keep the top button done up rather than going for the full reveal though

lissiethevampireslayer · 26/10/2007 08:11

i only took pjs with me into hospital and ended up having a crash cs, which meant that due to the catheter i could only wear the tops. i felt v exposed. agree that primark do great button front nighties (the one by me even has lovely flannel ones.

moocowme · 26/10/2007 19:16

tesco also does some cheap 100% cotton ones. i got a variety of styles as i was not sure how hot/cold it would be in the hospital. wore them all at different times.

peachygirl · 26/10/2007 21:49

moocowme I got my cheap Pjs from Tesco

PuppyDogEyes · 29/10/2007 00:42

Finally started preparing my hospital bag, took Spooktheif's advice, popped into Primark, got 2 nighties (with button front to bottom of bust) pair of flip flops, 5 pack big knickers and dressing gown all for GBP 13.50!

Bargain in my book!

forgot to buy a dark towel for after birth shower, will go back this week.

daydreambeliever · 29/10/2007 03:05

I live in Ireland, got mine from Dunnes.

I had a few nighties and a pair of PJs, actually felt a bit exposed in PJ's like as though the outline of the enormous maternity pad was visible from behind. Well it probably was. The voluminous nighties felt better. Yes, and if you need a catheter you cant wear PJs.

I got DH to bring in enormous thick dressing gown, it would have taken up the whole bag if i'd packed it from the start, but it was such a comfort to have, cosy, and hiding blood stains on tail end when I was wondering up and down the corridor.

But you stay in for 3 days here.

Get cotton nighties only, hospital will be hot, synthetic fibres will smell bad when you sweat.
