Induction can be more painful than natural labour if that makes sense. I've only ever been induced so I have nothing to compare it too. Be open minded about pain relief as the drip makes the contractions more intense and speeds it up. I'm going in for my induction at 37 weeks on Tuesday due to GD again and will be making sure I have my epidural. Bring plenty of snacks and drinks also maybe some books and something to do. A phone charger is a must have 😂 xx

I’m being induced tomorrow & also a bit nervous about what to expect.

I’m assuming I’ll get a pessary so going to see how I go in terms of pain relief. A lot of tips are to keep active, which will be difficult/impossible in COVID times.

I’m taking the positives as not having to do the whole guess work about when to go in, not being sent home to come back in & also having access to an epidural if I need it.

I’m taking quite a lot in as DH can’t leave. We’re taking a load of Christmas food leftovers in Grin and have downloaded a lot onto the iPad, plus we’ll tether it so we can stream stuff if needed too.

@MaverickDanger I'm being induced tomorrow too.

@Kay1309 is this your first child!?
This is my third but I have biggish gaps (10&6)
I'm 39+2 tomorrow and I delivered my other two at 39 spontaneously so this is the furthest I have got.
I have been having growth scans have said he's not thriving.
I'm scared too.
Had my covid test, packed my bag. They've told me to get there for 7.30 and eat a big breakfast to bring lots of snacks and some things to do as it can be fast or it can be days.
I'll update you if you want?
I'm worried it will end in a section/assisted.
Let's hope it goes well and smoothly for the three of us. X

Hey op

I was induced on my due date in may due to having an expected big baby (he was 10lbs so they were right!) I had the propess. The actual insertion was quite painful, be aware you can ask for gas and air, or ask them to take it slower.

In terms of the progression I had it inserted at 11am and was having bad period pains from 6pm. My waters broke on the toilet around 9pm and I was left alone for 5 hours!! Finally begged to be examined and found to be 9cm when my husband could finally join. Being my first child I wasn't sure how far gone I was, and wasn't pushy enough to ask to be examined or for help because I just didn't know. My advice is to speak up when you feel the need.

Also take stuff to preoccupy yourself with. And download the Freya app if you can afford the £3. It's what got me as far as I went without pain relief.

All in all inductions are associated with harder labours but I think if you can prepare yourself mentally for this you're already winning. It's so so worth it for the end result. The best thing in the world 🙂

If you have any specific questions I'm happy to try and help.

Good luck

I was induced a couple of weeks ago... I had the pessary inserted at 7pm, kept that in for 24 hours with no more than period cramps as PP also said, I found the insertion of that quite uncomfortable and didnt realise I could ask for Gas and Air, was definitely bearable and I'm sure everyone is different.

The pessary didnt do anything for me really apart from soften my cervix slightly, so then had tbe gel inserted at 7pm the following day (at my hosp gel is checked and re applied every 6 hours for up to 3 goes I believe). Just after 9pm my waters had partly gone and I was having quite strong contractions but still only 2cm dilated, I had pethidine and managed to dose for around 2 hours . By 12am I felt the urge to push and upon examination I was fully dilated and ready to go...my DH made it with 12 minutes to spare, having had to of left at 8pm due to me not being in active labour!

The first 24 hours were pretty boring, definitely take snacks and things to occupy yourself with like netflix, music or book etc.

Be open minded - I have heard lots about contractions being really intense if you are put on the drip etc, but I never made it that far!
