Has anybody been for an early viability scan at 6 weeks? Is it worth it?

I've heard mixed reviews Confused

I just had an NHS scan (due to previous history) at what I thought was 6w2 and I was measuring 5w3d. There was really nothing to see and it’s ended up causing more stress for me because I was measuring less than what I thought.

I’ve rebooked a private one for 10 weeks and if you can wait until 8+ weeks I would recommend doing that

@GoodBurger ah okay, this is my worry that there won't be much to see. Although I'm pretty sure I'll be bang on with dates as we had fertility treatment but still 6 weeks there won't be much. I just want to know things are at least okay ie not eptopic etc but it's a lot of money Hmm

@c307 Are you sure you're not entitled to an early scan as part of your fertility treatment? As others have said, there isn't much to see or comment on before 7/8 weeks but I totally understand the anxiety you're feeling.

I had one at 7 weeks and could see heart beating and little arm and leg buds, it made me feel a lot better to be honest as I hadn't had fertility treatment but had had losses previously so was really quite anxious.

I think they cause more stress than they solve at 6 weeks. Personally I wouldn’t recommend anything under 7 weeks.

Unless you have severe pain/bleeding, please do not have a scan earlier than 8 weeks. I've had 7 pregnancies and lost 3 and had early scans with all of them. The scans which were done prior to 8 weeks were very hit and miss -even with the successful pregnancies. By 8weeks there is a definite baby, heartbeat and size criteria. Before then things can be missed and lead to weeks of anxiety while awaiting follow up scans. So long as you are sure of your dates, a scan at 8 weeks can be very reassuring whereas before then it's just very small.
