Keep bumping until Mears sees it. I'm guessing if it didn'thappen until late in your pregnancy it was a one-off (but, what do I know...)

Could you get referred to the special unit at St Marys? I have a friend who miscarried between 6-12 weeks due to clotting. But this is different to your case where she had problems at the early stage and you had them at a late stage. I think she miscarried about 8-10 times but I am pleased to say she is pregnant with her first baby due in 4wks time. She saw a specialist at St Marys and is on baby asprin and hepadrin (sp?) - it's another name for Warfarin.

YG, neither heparin nor warfarin is related to aspirin so treatment with either of those could be an option (although warfarin is not recommended for use throughout pregnancy).

It may be that your obstetrician will recommend something towards the end of your next pregnancy as this is when the problems occured. Did you have to have an emegency C-Section?

ChicPea · 25/10/2004 21:47

Why not see your GP and tell him/her you are planning on a second baby and would like to be referred to a specialist and can they have a copy of your notes?

Yorkiegirl - every pregnancy is an individual one so what happened before will probably not happen again. I presume you didn't have bleeding first time round?
Many women have clot development behind the placenta to varying degrees, often with no impact on the pregnancy. I would not expect any kind of treatment to be prescribed next time round TBH. Hopefully it is something that will no recur but you will not be able to get an absolute answer on that one from the obstetrician. Perhaps you could get an appointment with your consultant to discuss it? That is something that can be arranged at our hospital so I would expect yours to be the same. The GP will not have a clue IMO. I honestly think it is more likely to be a one off. HTH.

ps - your placenta was obviously working well despite the clot to have had a normal delivery.

I had a placental clot which gave a scare around the middle of my first pregancy but the next two were fine. I don't think having them once predisposes you to getting them again. Even if there is no extra risk though, you could be unlucky and get them (or something else) again; all pregnancies are a little risky.
