Hi all, I've recently found out I'm pregnant. I'm a 3rd year healthcare student (not nursing / midwifery). I'm already feeling rough (exhausted, nausea, cramping) and really worried about the next few months. I'm meant to be on placement in hospitals up until just before Easter next year. How on earth do I cope AND manage to successfully finish? Anyone successfully managed to finish an undergraduate degree whilst pregnant, particularly if it was healthcare? How?! Thankfully my placements only involve days so I'm not having to contend with working nights too!

First, hopefully if you’re early on you’ll find it improves a LOT in second trimester then third until quite late on.
Some self care - making sure you get to know your patterns/triggers, like I was really susceptible to low blood sugar and felt awful so grazing was definitely the way to go. Try to make sure you’re eating well but do some things like batch cooking etc so that you can also ensure you have some relaxed recovery time when you’re at home and can take it easy.
Speak to your tutor/supervisor ASAP too especially as many NHS staff are advised to be no patient facing from 28 weeks so they need to advise on how that might affect you. Either way they can also help you put some managing techniques in place even if that’s appropriate breaks, decent shifts etc and should do an appropriate risk assessment

I have no advice on how to cope as I'm also a third year mature university student and 15 weeks pregnant. I also have a 5 year old and I'm working 22 hours a week, alongside uni.
I was unfortunate enough to suffer from really bad morning sickness this time around and and stupidly still haven't told uni Hmm

As I said no advice, but here for a hand hold and to say I know how you feel!

I had a baby halfway through the third year of my psychology degree. However, I did take a years 'maternity leave' after the end of the first semester, and then went back at the beginning of the second semester the following year. It can be done!
