Blighted Ovum scan help

I’m hoping someone can help explain this scan to me. I’ve just got in from an 8 week private scan and was told the pregnancy sac was empty ie a blighted ovum. No baby.

Can anyone tell me what I’m looking at? The first pic is what the clinic sent to me, and the second and third is after I’ve played with the saturation. Is this just fluid?

The EPU is closed today so I can do anything until tomorrow. Brutal honestly would be appreciated. I feel like I’m clutching at straws.

So sorry to hear this. I had a blighted ovum in my first pregnancy and my scan looked very similar to yours. What you’re looking at is a sac, which would contain amniotic fluid. If there was anything to see in the sac, the sonographer would have picked it up. I hope you can get some closure from EPU, and look after yourself. It’s awful news but nothing you did wrong at all x

Hi I had blightedovum too. It looks to me that there's a sac and possibly some bleeding on the side, mine looked similar.

Sorry, OP xx

Thank you ladies, I think that’s exactly what I needed to hear, rather than me holding onto false hope. I really appreciate your responses xx @swiftt @PurplePansy05

OP, if you're asking if they've missed the baby the answer is that's extremely unlikely at your gestation and there should have been heartbeat if the pregnancy was viable. In any event they'll rescan you at the hospital to be sure before they advise you on your options. Blighted ovum means that it either stopped developing very early and was reabsorbed by your body or it has never developed properly at all, so effectively there is only a sac but no baby. Unfortunately it happens sometimes. I had 3 MCs, currently pregnant again. Tbh, the blighted ovum MC was far easier to deal with mentally and physically than the MCs where the baby was developing. It's very unlucky, but not a sign of serious problems, usually it's a chromosomal issue unlikely to repeat itself. Best of luck to you, you'll have your rainbow one day xx

Thank you for responding @PurplePansy05. That makes perfect sense. I think the main reason I was confused is because I couldn’t see the sac on the screen during the scan. It wasn’t until I got home and started playing with the saturation that I saw it. There definitely wasn’t a heart beat so I’ve accepted it as it is.

Sorry to hear about your MC’s, hopefully better days are ahead xx
