Painful dead legs at night

Morning all,

I'm 25 weeks pregnant and for the past week have been experiencing painful "dead legs" at night. I'm only sleeping on my side and I try to start out with my pregnancy pillow but end up knocking it on the floor in my sleep!

The pain is really in my shins and only gets better once I get up in the morning, though I still have soreness throughout the day.

I've spoken to my midwife and she says that because there is no swelling or redness that she isn't too concerned and suggested I try eating bananas for potassium (which I am doing. I also take a pregnancy supplement containing potassium).

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced the same and, if so, what helped?

Thanks in advance!

I'm 24+2, and I keep getting the worst pain at the top of my thigh every night. Google said it's to do with sleeping on my side and the additional weight of the baby, as I'm not usually a purely side sleeper either.

Some mornings I'm in agony when I wake up, but it eases quickly, though I'm also sore all day. I've started sleeping with a pillow in between my legs which seems to have eased the pain. Still there when I wake up but not as bad as it has been.

Although mine is my thigh rather than my shin, so not sure if this actually helps you!

Take a magnesium supplement as well. Not just a multivitamin which usually only has a piffling amount. Double check the max recommended daily amount, and take that. Then have a warm bath before bed and try and sleep with a pillow between you legs to elevate the top one. One more option is to get a thick foam topper for your mattress. It allows for more cushioning for your hips

Magnesium spray from
Holland & Barrett sprayed on at night did the trick for me

Thanks all, I'll try a pillow between my legs and look into magnesium
