Trapped Wind

Hi,
I am 5weeks 6 days pregnant. Found out very early and have suffered with excruciating trapped pretty much since. I have roughly 3 episodes per day/night. When it happens I'm rolling about the floor in agony, sometimes in tears. I am tried wind relieving yoga, sipping hot water, peppermint tea, rennie deflatine tablets, hot water bottles, rocking on all fours. Doctor prescribed lactulose but unsure if this is making it worse. The thought of this lasting 9 months is making me even more ill. Any advice?

I've no advice but I can sympathise with you because I had it last night and I was in agony with it. Tried sitting up, rocking on all fours, took windeze tablets, took a shot of cider vinegar in some water, put frozen veg against my back which seemed to exacerbate the pain even more. I was hot sweaty felt sick. In the end I laid in bed with a pillow under my back so I was arched slightly. Still wouldn't shift the pain. Honestly thought I was dying and I'd convinced myself I was having a heart attack or something because the pain was in my chest as well. Laid checking my blood pressure, heart rate and oxygen levels to see if I was going to cark it through the night. Rolled around some more thinking every so often it had gone but then suddenly it would come back again. Popped 3 rennies down and laid until it eased off. Must've taken a good few hours to finally disappear. When I got back up again to go get a drink loads of trapped air was expelled when I burped and the relief was immense. Funnily enough though when forcing myself to burp it didn't help with the pain at all. One thing I will say though is the information on the windeze tablets I took is a load of bollocks. They do not ease trapped wind discreetly and gently at all.

I had a lot of bloating and wind at the start of pregnancy (now 31 weeks) my belly would swell up and I'd look about 5 mo this pregnant. Didn't matter what I ate or didnt eat. There was nothing I found that helped but it has got better as time progressed, hopefully it'll be the same for you to.

I had the same from week 8 (and still have some episodes now at 14 weeks). I know the feeling as the pain is unbelievable. Initially they misdiagnosed me and gave me painkillers which have a constipating effect so that made it worse. But on second look they noted I looked bloated and they prescribed me lactulose and peppermint tea. I thought it was surely not possible those would calm the pain. I spent 2 days in bed in so much pain whilst these took effect. Now every time I start feeling pain I'd take lactulose and lay down in bed - it really helps. In an hour or so I am back up and running.

Could it be gallstones? They can feel similar - do you also have pain across your back/ between your shoulder blades? Maybe you could have an ultrasound to check your gall bladder. It’s apparently not unusual for pregnant or postpartum women to first become aware of gallbladder issues in or after pregnancy due to hormone surges.

Also gallbladder issues are exacerbated by rapid weight changes up as in pregnancy or down

I'm so glad you posted this I'm feeling the same! I've felt like I'm living in a continuous hangover for about a week, between feeling sick and my stomach and back hurting I didn't realise it started so soon I'm about 5 weeks and bloating is horrendous. I spent most of last night rolling on my back on the floor to try and ease the pressure as that seems to be the only thing that's working for me.
I wonder if maybe its to do with our physiology- I'm reading alot of the discomfort is from the uterus changing and I know from gyn appointments they mentioned I have a very petite uterus.
Never thought I'd spend so much time dreaming of having a huge fart. Grin

I'm the exact same, I wake up thinking I wonder what I can try today to fart! I've been signed off work because originally they thought the pain was an ectopic, I've seen early pregnancy and all appears to be fine. I have another early scan next week. Mines is definitely hormonal. I had the nexplanon contraceptive implant in a few years ago which made me the exact same. The only think that helped was taking it out again. It seems to be an increase in progesterone that does it for me :(:( not sure how I can go back to work (12 hour shifts) when feeling like this!

Thank god I’m working from home so I can throw myself to the floor and roll around!

I’ve just started doing these exercises today and they seem to be helping- the first one I did the pose maybe 10 times holding it for 20 seconds

Thanks, I'll give them a try. I thought I had cracked it as a mug of boiled water before bed seemed to keep me settled overnight. Although last night was so bad and so painful I was sick. Fingers crossed this passes soon!

Hopefully it will improve when your womb grows up out of your pelvis.
You need to lie on your right side, with your knee drawn up half way and supported on a pillow.
You have my sympathies, trapped wind is very painful and makes me feel so sick.
