Had lots of positive pregnancy tests over the last few days but they weren't getting as dark as I would have liked.
There has been a little bit of blood this morning and I'm sure a chemical pregnancy/miscarriage is going to happen soon ;-(
In a nut shell I have lost 3 in the past - 2 about 5 years ago, then we put a hold on baby making as we lived in a small house and needed to extend or move...
Fast forward to last December (live in a bigger house now) I came off the pill and had a chemical pregnancy in July and now this one I think I'm going to lose...
What I'm wondering is what help I can get now? Do I contact doctor or midwife... is it better to go private for tests?
Doctor's haven't really done anything as of yet except tell me to wait and take a test until it's negative.
Sorry about the long post. Thanks in advance. X

Spotting can happen in pregnancy and doesn't necessarily mean that your having a miscarriage. I've read that around 20% of women can experience light bleeding in the first 12 weeks. How far are you gone?

StaceyW87 · 17/12/2020 11:15

Only 5 weeks 3 days.
It's getting heavier so I'm 99% sure it's going to happen Sad

I think all you can do is wait it out for now and take a test in a few days 😔 I'm so sorry your going through all of this.

I've not had experience with bleeding but hopefully my message will bump your post so someone can tell you if they've experienced the same with heavier bleeding.

Wishing you all the best Thanks

StaceyW87 · 17/12/2020 12:03

Thank you.
Just want to know what to do now, surely my fertility should get tested. Not sure how to go about it though x

With more than two miscarriages you should be able to get treatment on the nhs, but I’d consider going private as they’ll have much shorter waiting times. I had two miscarriages this year too and am pregnant again and terrified I’ll have another one. Were your miscarriages all very early?

StaceyW87 · 17/12/2020 12:36

Yes they were all very early so I take comfort in that. I've got a nearly 8 year old so I can see through a pregnancy. Would love to give her a brother or sister but they just don't seem to stick :-( x

I know where your coming from, it's horrible I she a MMC earlier this year and it was horrible.

I am currently pregnant and the week before my 12wk scan I had bleeding, quite alot to the point j had basically convinced myself I was loosing the baby, as this was not just spotting, which I had earlier on in the pregnancy, had my scan and no idea where it came from or why it happened but everything was fine, two healthy babies measuring as they should.

I am nearly at 20 weeks pregnant with healthy twins and no further bleeding though the first bleed did last about 10 days.

Bleeding isn't always a bad sign but it may be worth popping to a&e or contacting the epu and seeing if they can scan you, put your mind at ease.

RustyCat · 17/12/2020 12:38

That was meant to say I had a MMC earlier this year** note to self proof check before posting!

StaceyW87 · 17/12/2020 13:50

I'm glad you're ok but I don't want to get my hopes up. I feel the same as I did last time.
Just so disappointed in my body :-( feel like I can't trust my body anymore x

Hi, I had 3 MCs. It is not correct that you can get treatment on the NHS after 2. You can get it after 3 consecutive MCs, which in your case means you qualify. You need to speak to the EPU, tell them your history and request that they refer you to a Recurrent Miscarriage Clinic. I was referred, had all the tests and I'm perfectly healthy. I am now pregnant again, on Cyclogest and baby aspirin, but it's precautionary only. If this pregnancy doesn't work out, I will get further tests in respect of NK Cells, these can be done in London or in Coventry. There is plenty on that on MN. I'm really sorry OP, it's a horrid experience. Wishing you best of luck Flowers

StaceyW87 · 17/12/2020 14:10

Purplepansy05 how far along are you now? Best of luck to you. I will definitely ring up the doctors and get things rolling x

Thanks @StaceyW87. 6+1 today, scan at the RMC early next week, we shall see. Best of luck to you too xx

StaceyW87 · 17/12/2020 16:36

Rang doctors and have to ring at 8am for any sniff of an appointment. Rang both midwife numbers I could find and no answer. They say reach out for help but no one seems to want to help :-(

@StaceyW87 firstly sending you lots of love x

I had my third chemical pregnancy this year at the end of November. I'm in Northern Ireland so it's likely to be a bit different but I phoned my GP and he was extremely understanding and I got my referral for nhs. (Not all the GPs were as good, so bless this one). He did say that if I had the resources, he recommended I go private. He said that it could be something like hormones and I could get the prescription on the nhs to move the process along. He said with COVID it will be 6-10 months before my first appointment on the nhs and that's just the consultation (again this is NI and our wait times do tend to be longer). I have my private appointment on the 22nd so fingers crossed I get some answers

Take all the time you need to grieve! I grieved each one but then I kicked my bum into action during this 3rd one. I'm starting to see that all of our experiences and emotional needs are different so most importantly do what you need to hun Xx

angc30 · 17/12/2020 21:21

@StaceyW87 oops my reading skills aren't up to par apparently

Just want to post again to say fingers, toes and everything crossed that this little one sticks and all that post before isn't relevant to you Thanks

StaceyW87 · 17/12/2020 21:41

@angc30 thank you, I will definitely try to get the ball rolling with this. How much is it private if you don't mind me asking... I'm willing to pay for private if it isn't too pricey x

OP posts:
angc30 · 18/12/2020 07:04

@StaceyW87 my consultation is £169 and an internal u/s £269. It's dear enough for this time of year but we decided that it's worth it for after this year. We're saving for a house so any testing is just coming out of that fund. I can let you know what they do during the appointment on Tuesday!

There's a lot of fertility issues in my family so for my peace of mind I needed to get the ball rolling! My mam has 6 sisters and 3 needed ivf for their first. The other 3 had kids in their teens or early 20s

StaceyW87 · 18/12/2020 07:57

@angc30 thank you yes I'd love to know what happens. Fingers crossed for you. X

OP like you I had one child then started to miscarry when trying for a second. For me it seemed to be natural killer cell issues, I had private treatment in the end. Four miscarriages, all first trimester, then finally my second child. Posting that just to say it can work out, though I do think you need to see someone - I saw Dr Shehata at the miscarriage clinic in London, but there are others. Sorry you're having to go through this Flowers

PurplePansy05 · 18/12/2020 08:34

OP, GP won't see you with this, with no disrespect as I've been there myself, but there's nothing they can do either way, whether it's positive or negative news. I'd expect now in covid you shouldn't be seen to get a referral to an RMC anyway if your GP is going to do it, perhaps the EPU may want to see you, but they could probably refer you over the phone too. There will likely be a few months' wait. You could ask your GP to test your hormone levels but this can't be done when you're pregnant or soon after a miscarriage because they won't be representative. I know you're anxious but there is no need to rush now. Deep breaths, do a bit of research and plan your next steps. Xx

PurplePansy05 · 18/12/2020 08:42

Also were all your losses CPs or how far along did you get before? It's obviously a guess if you haven't been tested at all, but if you ever got further along than say 5+ weeks then it may well be NK cells or APS, if not then there is a higher likelihood your hormones may play a part, for example low progesterone and insufficient thickness of the lining. You might also want a scan to see whether there are anatomic reasons, but if you already had a child I'd be surprised if that hadn't been picked up then tbh. It may well be the case the reason was chromosomal and complete coincidence, you won't know until you've been tested. Xx

SamT210 · 18/12/2020 09:20

@RustyCat do you mind me asking if you had mild cramping with the bleeding before your 12 week scan or was it just bleeding. I'm experiencing this now and my 12 week scan is on Wednesday. Did you get referred to EPU?

RustyCat · 18/12/2020 11:51

@SamT210 yes I had mild cramps with the odd sharp pain. I wasn't referred as it wasn't enough bleeding for them to be concerned and the cramps were so on and off but the midwife did say if it got worse or the cramps were constant to take myself in to a&e.

With my first MMC the cramping was so severe I could barely breathe, the blood well...it was like something I've never seen before in my life at how much and how fast it came so with my recent bleeding I wasn't as panicked but it did worry me hence the call to the midwifes.

If in doubt or any worry give them a call.
