Pregnancy dates wrong?

The first day of my last period was 29th October 2020, and according to ovulation tests I didn't ovulate until the 17/18th november, I found out I was pregnant and according to the online calculators I am around 7 weeks, however a few days ago I experienced bleeding and my doctor sent me for a scan, but only the sac was visible, no yolk or anything she said it's measuring around 5 weeks, but how is this possible even if I ovulated a few days late? This is my first pregnancy and my anxiety is through the roof, I have a follow up scan in to weeks

Unfortunately it can either mean one of two things - either your ovulation dates were wrong or the pregnancy isn't viable sorry. Sometimes things can catch up and in 2 weeks time you'll see a healthy pregnancy and I hope it's good news for you x

18th November only puts u at 6 weeks today so couple days ago 5weeks wouldn't have been too far off plus early scans below 7weeks are really inaccurate as baby is so tiny if tests are positive u have symptoms and no more bleeding I wouldn't worry too much

@Abih3012 I don’t have much advice other than to say I am having a similar experience - LMP 18 Oct (100% certain), can’t be sure when I ovulated but my periods are very regular 26 day cycles. That would put me at 8w 3 days, however I went for an early scan yesterday that, like you, put me back nearly 2 weeks.

Like you, I have poured over the dates and really can’t understand how it can work out and I’ve been so anxious that the pregnancy isn’t developed to where it should be and it’s an indicator of a non-viable pregnancy. I totally understand how worried you must be feeling. Ive been researching so much online and on forums today (probably not a great idea!) and it does seem that if you ovulate later in the month (as you did and as I think I might have done) it’s possibly for pregnancy to appear a week or more early than you’d expect. It seems to be an even split online between people in a similar position to us who had positive outcomes and those who didn’t. I know that’s frustrating but if you’re feeling generally well with no more bleeding you just have to try and stay calm and get through to the next scan - if everything’s fine your pregnancy will be measuring 7 weeks by then and you should be able to see a lot more. Fingers crossed for you xx

Unfortunately when this happened to me, I lost the pregnancy a week later. I was 7 weeks, the scan showed that I was 5. This wasn't possible and I knew it, the sonographer told me it could just be that I got my dates wrong but I knew I didn't.

I really hope this isn't the case for you, and you go on to have a successful pregnancy op x

As others have said you could just have your dates wrong or it could be an issue with the pregnancy. Last year I had an 8 week scan and was only measuring 6 weeks. I knew something was up but they insisted I'd just ovulated late (despite the fact I told them I'd been using OPKs so knew when I'd ovulated). Wouldn't do anything till my 12 week scan which showed the baby hadn't grown past 7 week size and I was diagnosed with a missed miscarriage which later was confirmed to be a partial molar pregnancy. With that I'm mind I'd say please push for a repeat scan in a week's time, everything may be fine and you'd see a normal rate of growth but if there is an issue you need to find out sooner rather than later x
