Anterior placenta and movements- late pregnancy

Ladies how did your movements go in late pregnancy with an anterior placenta? I'm 35 weeks and have so far been in 7 or 8 times for reduced movements, each time baby is fine, I just struggle to feel him!

I'm noticing that the time between movements is getting longer and they aren't as strong, sometimes I will feel him move once or twice then have nothing for a good 4+ hours, other days he will just be positioned right that I can feel him on my left side and I get good movements then!

The stress is building because I feel like I'm wasting their time as he's always fine and I've been in so much! I've already been told I will be induced at 39 weeks if not happened naturally by then but I'm due to speak to a consultant about bring this forward because of the stress!

Hi. I have an anterior placenta and am also 35 weeks today. This is my 4th DC and I have definitely noticed a difference this time. I have been in twice with reduced movement - both times baby started moving as soon as I was on the monitor and I felt like a wally.

I have noticed that I am getting fewer kicks but I am getting sort of rolling sensation of him moving from side to side.
I am more on edge though as I'd rather have nice clear kicks but this is becoming his new (last week or so) norm so I'm going by that when counting movement.

Go in as many times as you need!! I have no idea if they would move your induction date forward but you should tell them all your concerns.

Good luck with your consultant- let me know how you get on! Smile

EllieJai44 · 16/12/2020 21:58

@Grumpy19 its so hard because I don't want to be like oh thats his new normal and then potentially miss something!

I'm hoping the consultant will take pity on me 😂

Yes. I know what you mean. I'm constantly questioning myself but definitely get checked if at all unsure. I have and even though I feel daft the midwives always say 'You've done the right thing'
Hope you get a good consultant!

Hey I'm currently 36+6 with my first baby and I don't really feel him kick or slide his feet along the front of my belly I assume because of the placenta, I mostly just feel him doing that on the sides more so. I've also been in for reduced movement. At the moment I mostly feel him moving by him sticking his bum out and wriggling it side to side 😂 , so yeah I mainly feel his bum moving rather than his feet! He has also been in the correct position for a long time now so i think he enjoys using the placenta as a back pillow 😂

Hi, I’m 35 weeks with anterior placenta. I feel most movement at the top, near ribs which I think is feet! It’s no so much a kick but really strong movements. I don’t feel much elsewhere as baby is head down. I’ve been in once for reduced movement and baby started moving as soon as I walked through hospital doors! I wouldn’t hesitate to go back though, I’m having weekly scans so they’ve told me to have a really low threshold for what I consider normal movement wise and ring them straight away

Tickly · 16/12/2020 22:29

I've had one like this. It's tricky to know what they're up to! Don't hesitate to go back in. They will never see you as a time waster and you won't regret being reassured. The best outcome is the one where you get sent home feeling a bit sheepish. The worst outcome is indescribably awful (this did happen to my wonderful friend almost 10 years ago now).

I'm 31 weeks with twins - both have anterior placentas. I'd say the last week or so movement has gone from strong kicks to much more subtle nudges as they are running out of space. Some days I don't feel them much at all and other days they seem very busy . But this is their pattern and very much depends on what position they are

EllieJai44 · 17/12/2020 06:39

I wouldn't necessarily call the movements kicks now but definitely more limbs rolling and pushing out- when they happen, I think he may just be a lazy baby which combined with the placenta is causing the issues! Especially when he's right cuddled into my placenta as by my last scan!

Sometimes I can feel on the outside with my hands but not be feeling internally, which stops me going in because he's moving but I can spend hours at a time with my hands on my stomach! Not when I have a toddler too!

I'm 36 weeks and placenta is anterior. Surprisingly I've not been in once for reduced movements! I mainly feel baby on the sides of my bump. It's definitely different to my last (posterior placenta) pregnancy, where I felt movements like wriggles a lot more.

EllieJai44 · 17/12/2020 07:13

@Covidwoes it could be me being paranoid but usually I end up with a day of either very little movements or can go a good few hours of nothing 🤦‍♀️ even when I've gone in and been put on the monitor you can hear him move but I can't feel it, only unless he does a huge movement!

Covidwoes · 17/12/2020 07:55

@EllieJai44 you're definitely doing the right thing getting checked! What I've noticed with an anterior placenta is that baby's heartbeat is tricker to find on the Doppler at appointments (which is anxiety provoking!).

TildaTurnip · 17/12/2020 07:57

I was the same and induced at 37+1

EllieJai44 · 17/12/2020 08:10

@Covidwoes yes everytime! Even when on the monitor they always have trouble! Even been scanned a few times in triage because they couldn't find him 🤦‍♀️ and then on my growth scans they always have to struggle to get his measurements and I end up on my side etc!

OP posts:
EllieJai44 · 17/12/2020 08:11

@TildaTurnip was it a consultant that agreed this in advance or did you get induced after going into triage for an episode of reduced movements?

OP posts:
TildaTurnip · 17/12/2020 10:10

After reduced movements (which weren’t necessarily reduced but I certainly couldn’t feel anything!). I had anterior placentas in both pregnancies and barely felt any movements. So stressful!

EllieJai44 · 17/12/2020 10:24

@TildaTurnip it really is! I hate it! Just constant worry!

OP posts:
H8624 · 17/12/2020 13:23

@EllieJai44 I'm 37 1/2 weeks and I've never had a really consistent pattern with his movements to be honest.

Only been in once with reduced movements, as long as I feel him throughout the day/night I try not to worry. I went in on Sunday though as felt nothing the entire day (he was fine just being lazy!)

I have never felt movements at the front either, it's almost always on my left side which is where his arms and legs are if it's kicks, or more of a 'roll/wiggle' on the right when he shuffles his bum around!

Do you go in when you haven't felt anything all day? Or when your baby is slightly less active? 7/8 times is quite a lot! Altho you should always get checked if you don't feel anything for an entire day.

EllieJai44 · 17/12/2020 15:00

@H8624 I try not to go in unless its been a good portion of the day I haven't felt him or if I think he's been quiet and try all the tricks of getting him to move and they don't work 🤦‍♀️ for example the other day I went in because I had a busy morning but had been sat still since 12pm and come 5pm had nothing!

OP posts:
TildaTurnip · 17/12/2020 16:18

NEVER feel as though you have to restrict how often you go in. You’re not annoying or hassling anyone.

EllieJai44 · 17/12/2020 16:44

@TildaTurnip I just wonder if they think I'm lying, it takes hours to be seen and I think why would I want to spend all that time there?!

I felt a bit like that in my first pregnancy. In my second I 1) realised they probably didn’t think that and 2) didn’t care if they did.
You’ll never regret going to be checked out and there is only a short time before they will arrive.
