Hi, this may have been asked a lot but cannot find a recent one.

Could you recommend some maternity pads and breast pads, I don't want to waste money and would like to hear from people who have tried and tested.

Thank you in advance Smile

Boots own brand or Kotex maternity pads are the best I found. Don't even touch the tesco ones, they completely disintegrate.

Lansinoh breast pads are my favourite - have used them with my older 3 children and have stocked up in preparation for DC4 next month.

I'm going to be using lansinoh breast pads and aldi luna Incontinence pads as they are big and thick too. So much cheaper than maternity pads. But I haven't actually tried them yet as not due for another 4 weeks so could be hit or miss.

Third vote for the lansinoh breast pads. I tried boots own brand and the nuby ones as well.

I've got incontinence nappies for the first few days. Pleasant Hmm

StaceImpactWfan · 15/12/2020 12:36

I meant the sana brand.

Tesco's maternity pads and nipple pads were good for me, not expensive at all x

Poppins2016 · 15/12/2020 12:46

Boots maternity pads. I used the bulky variety just after birth then switched to their slimline maternity pads once the flow eased off a bit.

Lansinoh or Boots breast pads, but I switched to reusable pads quite quickly.

I used any own brand breast pads for day time use. I used tena lady pads as breast pads for bedtime use, as no matter the breast pad I ended up with nip slip and the bed soaked in milk. I just popped them either side of a sports bra and woke up to a dry bed. (For the first few weeks while milk regulates, anyway).

I preferred the medela breast pads. they were softer and more like the inside of a nappy than the lansinoh ones which were more like a sanitary pad and were very itchy for me. I switched to reusable after a couple of months - the bamboo ones are good and wash well.

A word of warning to those who are considering disposable incontinence pants, I tried them but thought they were expensive and unnecessary...

a) they made me feel rather hot and sticky, exacerbated by the hot maternity ward (they're always on the warm end of the scale even in winter), very unpleasant.

b) I didn't need the amount of protection I thought I did. I would liken my post birth bleeding/lochia to a 'heavy period' rather than an 'uncontrollable mess' which is how a lot of people seem to portray it (you tend to hear the worst case scenario stories rather than the average ones!).

I went for eco friendly maternity pads and reusable breast pads.

Natracare Maternity Pads - got those off Amazon. They are a little bit more expensive but not much. I got 3 or 4 packs.

Washable breast pads - got mine from Boots originally but they've stopped doing them. But I know Cheeky Wipes do reusable breast pads.

I tried disposable ones - Lanisoh and Tommee Tippee. They were bloody awful. Scratchy and never stayed in place (even the sticky back ones).

icebubbles · 15/12/2020 13:53

Reusable breast pads - millions times better than disposable. And much cheaper!

shadesofcool · 15/12/2020 13:54

I used boots maternity pads - stock up on them you will need more than you think! I also used boots slimline breast pads and they were really good too - not too expensive and if you join boots parenting club you get extra points on your advantage card!

mongoosebaby · 15/12/2020 14:14

Breast pads depends so much on how much milk you leak- I couldn't use reusable ones at all for the first couple of months as I gushed loads and they just didn't hold it! I liked the lanisloh ones. Also used boots maternity pads, but my lochia was just like a normal period after the first 24 hrs- I liked how padded they were due to my stitches!

Megan1394 · 15/12/2020 17:29

Thank you all so much, I will get some reusable breast pads for when my milk has evened out.

I'll get my orders in for the disposable recommendations soon. Only 7 weeks until I meet my girl 💓

I just used normal always nighttime pads, I did buy some maternity ones that were maybe boots own brand but I didn’t like them and I didn’t gush nearly as much as I thought, it was just a slightly heavy period, I bled for 10 days and my normal period is 8 so not much difference. I used tommee tippee breast pads, I found them better than cheap own brand ones that were uncomfortable.

Both Wilko pads and nipple pads worked for me :)
