Are pregnancy pillows worth the money?

I'm now 22 weeks and suffering from breathlessness if I sleep on my back yet feel as if I'm squashing my stomach if I sleep on either my left or right side. Does anyone have any tips for the best pregnancy pillow? Or is there some kind of magic formula with regular pillows that I haven't discovered yet?
Thanks for any tips.

Just ordered one of those ones you recommended Sabinar here's to some sleep!! hope it arrives soon!

MrsBiscuit · 24/10/2007 12:58

Wobbegong / Sabinar - Does the grobag pillow have a cotton cover?

wobbegong · 25/10/2007 11:33

yes the cover is 100% cotton. A nice soft cream jersey, and washable. BumpTo3 sell the same one and you get a MN discount. They also sell spare cushion covers for £9.95, though I didn't bother buying one.

As it is made up of lots of little beads it has quite an unusual consistency- while the pillow itself is very light to carry around, the beads make the filling feel quite solid, like sand. I'm lovin' it!

Long Mothercare one for me too. V. cuddly. Now lies across top of sofa in dd's room to stop her banging her head on the windowsill!

GoodGollyMissMolly · 25/10/2007 11:53

Yes, Yes and Yes, I love my mothercare long bobypillow and I also bought the wedge to help support my bump and the V shaped shaped pillow. the V shaped pillow is great for back supportn when sitting on the sofa.

MrsBiscuit · 25/10/2007 12:52

Thanks Wobbegong. I'm sold. Off to do some internet purchasing straight away.

empen · 25/10/2007 13:03

I am getting a pillow. I have not slept properly for weeks and have tried a normal pillow between my legs amongst other things but was convinved these shaped pillows were a waste of money but I have been convinced otherwise.

MrsMcSpooky · 25/10/2007 15:48

mine's on its way

DANCESwithHughJackman · 25/10/2007 15:54

If anyone wants to buy one, I have mine to sell. It's one of these I think here it's filled with tiny beads. I loved it. My dh hated it, he called it Bob and said it got more love than him...

violeta · 25/10/2007 16:08

Being the original poster, just thought that I should say a big thank you to all of the suggestions and tips! I'm going to get a Mothercare one - an ordinary pillow just doesn't cut the mustard anymore!

DANCES - how much are you thinking of selling yours for??

DANCESwithHughJackman · 25/10/2007 16:21

Blimey I hadn't thought that far. Urm, make me an offer!

Radley · 25/10/2007 16:23

I had a wedge pillow with both of mine and swore by it, it was unbelievable the difference it made.

coby · 25/10/2007 20:13

DANCES - I'm no good at offers. Maybe I should submit my offer to your DH, sounds like he'd give me a good price for 'Bob' . Have a think and let me know

DANCESwithHughJackman · 25/10/2007 21:52

Am not letting dh near the computer then How about £12 + p&p - shouldn't be much it's very light. I can go and check on that at the post office on Monday though.

coby · 26/10/2007 08:55

DANCES - sounds good but let me know what P&P is first (just in case), currently nappy shopping so I need to spread the spending out before hubby notices . Does it have a removeable cover??

DANCESwithHughJackman · 26/10/2007 16:16

Yes I think so. I'm storing it at MIL's so will pop over and get it during the weekend. I'll let you know about p&p as soon as I've checked it. Give me a prod if I forget (highly likely, am hopelessly forgetful)
Oh and if you're going the disposable route with nappies(shock, horror!) after lots of trial and error I found Tescos own ones the best.

coby · 26/10/2007 16:32

OK will try to remember to prod you but I get pretty forgetful too, sure one of us will prod the other eventually

No disposables in this house we are fully cloth-bottomed . I just have a really bad cloth nappy addiction and with No3 on the way I have all the reasons I need to buy more

Our nearest Tescos is nearly 20 miles away

DANCESwithHughJackman · 26/10/2007 16:58

Good for you . I'm inherently too lazy and my nearest tesco is 5 mins away

coby · 26/10/2007 20:02

ahhhh, yes well I am a saint

DANCESwithHughJackman · 27/10/2007 08:14

but a chronic overuser of emotions nonetheless!

coby · 27/10/2007 16:44

Oh this thread is nothing, you should see some of my others (restricted myself to just the one this time, just to show willing)

empen · 27/10/2007 19:42

Coby (sorry for hijacking) just wondered if you can give reusable nappy virgin some advice. I would like to use reusables but there are so many different sorts or varying prices. Can you recommend something?? Again - sorry for hijacking thread!

coby · 27/10/2007 19:59

Hijack away - think Dances and I have been doing that anyway.

Hard to just recommend one type without knowing your circumstances. Probably most important question would be if you have a tumble drier or not. Also need to know what age or size baby you are looking to buy for, budget (probably as little as possible like everyone else wink]). I'm more than happy to give you my experience of cloth nappies (used pretty much everything tbh). It's also worth checking out the nappy and potty training thread on here. Feel free to email me on jhkwilks at launcells dot fsnet dot co dot uk but be warned I'm a bit of an addict so you might get a long reply

empen · 27/10/2007 21:24

Coby - have emailed you, THANKS
