I'm looking for some help!

I'm 26 weeks pregnant with DC2 and have been having a terrible pain around what feels like my pubic bone. The only way to describe it is it feels as if someone has gave me a swift kick between the legs I didn't have anything like this with DS1 - although granted I was younger!!! Am i just being paranoid and this is perfectly normal or should I be speak to my MW/Doc about this. I have to admit its getting really uncomfortable especially when I walk!

Help please!

Could be SPS (symphis pubis syndrome), I ahd it with both pregnancies and it sucks. As your pregnancy progresses the hormones begin to soften your joints including the one at the front of the pelvis allowing the edges of the bones to move and sometimes rub together which can be very painful. Your GP or MW should be able to refer you to a physio or suggest a support belt if it gets too painful. Try and keep your legs together as much as possible to keep your pelvis aligned (when rolling over in bed etc). If you search with SPS or SPD on here you'll pull up loads of really useful threads.
hope that helps ad congrats on your pregnancy

Thanks, I've been having terrible problems with my hips going dead in the middle of the night as well - really not comfy!!

I'll google SPS and see what I get!

Oh poor you - definitely sounds like SPD - I had it with my last pg and at 13 wks I think I can feel it starting again

The Pelvic Partnership have a great website with loads of advice.

You can self refer to the physio dept in the Maternity unit of your hospital. They will have a chat with you and probably give you a support belt (vital!!!) and maybe crutches if you need them. You'll also get loads of advice about labour positions.

There aren't really any excerises you can do, unfortunately because it's hormonal rather than something like back pain, any strain will make it worse and maybe do permanent damage.

EG - I had dd lying on the bed with my feet braced against the m/w's hips - bit no no no with SPD and did myself some mighty damage - the pain took 18 months to go away completely after the birth. But I was virtually strapped to the bed because of previous section. If your pg is straightforward then being in the water would be the best move I think.

A lot of mnetters have had SPD - it's worth a thread search on here too.

Does sound like SPD. I'm 38wks with DC2 & have had this for the last few months. Didn't have this with dd but apparently v.common.

My GP referred me to a maternity physio at hospital who was brilliant & suggested lots of things - some exercises, advice on positions & using birth ball during pregnancy plus other stuff like clenching buttocks while you walk ("like J-Lo"!) to reduce the pain.

Pain's still there but have learned how to manage it which helps. Physio also made suggestions about labour positions (as keeping knees together good for SPD pain but obviously not great for child birth!).

Hope this helps & good luck with pregnancy.

Hi
sounds like SPD.
Do read advice on pelvic partnership website. Very usefull.
In the meantime, keep your legs together and do very litlle lateral movements.
I'm only 11 weeks and this time already starting to feel some occasional shootig pain....I dread the coming months.
