Loosing weight while pregnant

I understand that loosing weight isn't a hot topic while pregnant but I'm wondering if it's possible to do so healthily.
At my booking appointment I had a BMI of 31 which is classed as obese.
In around 3 months I put on 2 stone.
I stopped smoking as soon as I found out I was pregnant at 4 weeks and the weight just piled on.
Is there any way or does any one have any advice on how to loose weight healthily during pregnancy. I know my belly's going to get bigger but my legs, bum and arms have expanded! I need to do something about it.
Thankyou!

I believe you can do slimming world while pregnant - they put you on a different plan. I don't think it would be wise to 'diet so to speak. But you could probably adapt more healthy eating now to avoid gestational diabetes and it will get you in right mind set to diet after baby is born. Hope you find something that suits you :)

Yes I should have worded it better lol. Not a diet but healthy lifestyle 🙈
I heard slimming world is good! They don't restrict the amount you eat either. I'll see if there's any online groups or something. Thankyou

Slimming World say "Slimming World do not advise on weight change during a member's pregnancy and do not encourage weight loss during this time". And if you continue you need your midwives backing and they won't tell you if you've lost or gained every week and try and get you to just eat healthy without a focus on weight loss x

@ShalomToYouJackie yes that sounds fine! As long as it's motivating me to make healthier choices then I don't mind x

@ShalomToYouJackie good to know as I was thinking of joining slimming world again (25 weeks pregnant) think I'll just leave it till I've gave birth. I do like that it gets you in a better mindset though :)

I was told by gp it isn't safe for pregnant women to actively try to lose weight. They encourage a healthy diet, but not one that minimises calorie intake. Obviously if you are eating a healthier diet then as a consequence you will put on significantly less weight and will make it easier to diet afterwards.

I don't think there is anything wrong in adopting healthier eating habits and choosing more whole foods and cutting down on the junk. Surely this will be beneficial to yourself and baby.

I'm currently pregnant (19weeks) and I have adopted some healthier eating habits. I haven't lost weight, but my gains have been nice and steady (about 6lb which I'm super happy with). I was about 1.4lb overweight before getting pregnant so I know I don't need to put too much on.

Just double check with your midwife before you do anything. As long as your not doing some crazy diet or deliberately under eating.

Regardless of losing weight, I believe that pregnancy is the most important time to eat as healthily as you can. Use it as an excuse to pile your plate with vegetables, to stay far away from unhealthy foods and snacks, to pick up a piece of fruit instead.

I have a healthy weight, never had weight issues or diabetes during pregnancy, but I did my very best to eat more salads (that I really don't like very much), to greatly reduce my Nutella (loooove the stuff) and to keep my hand away from the snacks and instead eat some fruit. It wasn't the easiest at times but you already gave up smoking (YAY congratulations!!!!) you have such a great willpower!Wink

Try small changes like if you drink cola or other sugary drinks switch to water. I wouldn't worry about counting calories but just try to make healthy choices and cut out junk food.
