Low Lying Placenta - when did you get rescanned?

If you were diagnosed with a low lying placenta at 20 weeks when were you rescanned to see if it had moved out the way? And had it moved by that point?

Threaten to file a complaint and follow through if they still fob you off.

I didn't know I could go any higher than the consultant and senior midwife. Where would I complain to?

The NHS board will have a complaints team or patient experience team. You should be able to find details of how to contact them on google. They will log it and get it investigated formally (I used to deal with NHS complaints!) and they need to respond within 20 working days
Best of luck!

I was rescanned at 28 and then every two weeks.
The purpose of a transvaginal scan would also be to check for vasa previa. For me this was suspect at 20 w and confirmed at 28 w, and I had to deliver by w 36.

With #1 I was rescanned at 32 weeks I think, it might have been 34.

With #2 they didn't bother as it would 'probably' have moved out of the way 😡

Oh that's terrible. I assume all was OK?

Had this with DC1 and was rescanned at 36 wks. I was even worried about that being a bit late so had anprivate scan at 34 for reassurance!

Vicalam · 11/12/2020 23:33

I have a low lying placenta and have a re scan booked for 34 weeks

OnNaturesCourse · 12/12/2020 01:41

Had it moved at 34 weeks?

Got about 3 weeks to wait but I'm not worrying about it, if worst comes to worst I'll need a c section, it's not what I'd choose but as long as the little ones ok that's the main thing

Floulou20 · 12/12/2020 08:27

I had a scan at 36 weeks and it was still low lying by a few mm so they offered me a csection or a rescan at 38 weeks, I've asked for the scan at 38 weeks

Definitely.

I am not fussed about csection really but I'd much rather a planned one than a emergency one if I go into labour before my NHS scan at 37. 5 weeks

Can I ask aswell, did any of you have complications from the placenta lying low - I have read it can cause bleeding in 3rd trimester etc.

StaceImpactWfan · 13/12/2020 10:52

@OnNaturesCourse I'm 35 weeks and touch wood I've been ok so far. Will find out in 2 weeks if placenta has moved at 36+5 x

OnNaturesCourse · 21/12/2020 10:23

My scan yesterday showed the placenta appears to have moved clear out the way. Baby's head was down and the placenta appears to be completely above it. However the NHS scan will go ahead as an internal to make double sure incase he was using any of it as a pillow!
